HELPFUL CAKE PAN CONVERSIONS

HELPFUL CAKE PAN CONVERSIONS image

You never need to adjust the oven temperature: cakes need to bake quickly in a relatively hot oven to set their structure and to make sure they don't dry out. You only need to adjust the baking time. If you're using a smaller pan with the same volume of batter (using an 11"x8" pan instead of 13"x9"), you're actually making a deeper cake, so it might take a little longer to bake. I'd still start checking it after 30 minutes: the cake should spring back

HOW TO CONVERT CAKE TO CUPCAKES | KING ARTHUR BAKING

From kingarthurbaking.com
  • Preheat the oven. The first thing to consider when converting cake to cupcakes is the baking temperature. Choose your temperature first so you can preheat the oven while you prepare the batter.
  • Make the batter as directed. This next step of converting cake to cupcakes really doesn’t require any conversion at all — simply make the batter as directed in the recipe.
  • Prepare your pans. Next, ready your pans for baking. Choose standard, jumbo, or mini muffin pans based on how large you want the final cupcakes to be.
  • Fill the wells. Regardless of the pan size, fill each well about 4/5 of the way full. (You can also use a muffin scoop to help you portion out the batter.)
  • Adjust the bake time. Cupcakes will always require less time in the oven than their cake counterparts. Each well is like a pan of its own containing a small amount of batter, so they'll cook through faster than full-size cakes.

HALVING CASSEROLES: TIPS FOR REDUCING THE SIZE OF A RECIPE ...
2011-01-28 The 8×8-inch pan is just slightly bigger than a halved 9×13, so if halving a recipe you may want to reduce the baking time by about 5 minutes, and check on the casserole then. But ultimately, this has always worked well for me. When halving a basic 9×13 casserole, cut the recipe in half and bake it in an 8×8-inch pan.

2010-10-28 For example, if a recipe calls for baking in an 8×8 pan (64 square inch bottom) but you have a 9×5 loaf pan (45 square inches), the batter is going to be almost 1-1/2 times as deep. (To figure this, divide the original pan size in square inches by the new pan size = 64/45 = 1.4). Since it will be deeper, you need to adjust the baking time and ...

2020-09-30 For example, if a recipe calls for using an 8-inch round cake pan and baking for 25 minutes, and you substitute a 9-inch pan, the cake may bake in only 20 minutes, since the batter forms a thinner layer in the larger pan.
