BEER BREAD

Beer Bread image

Beer bread goes down as one of my all-time favorite comfort foods. This basic beer bread recipe is just about the easiest you'll ever make!

Categories     baking     breakfast     comfort food     dessert     lunch

Time 1h

Yield 6 servings

Number Of Ingredients 4

3 c. self-rising flour
3 tbsp. sugar
12 oz. fluid beer, at room temperature
4 tbsp. butter, melted

Steps:

  • Grease a 9 x 5 loaf pan with shortening. Preheat oven to 350ºF.
  • Stir flour and sugar together. Pour in beer and stir until foaming subsides and flour is incorporated. Spoon into prepared pan and bake for 50-60 minutes until a toothpick comes out clean or an instant-read thermometer reads about 190ºF.
  • Immediately remove from pan and set on a wire rack on top of a rimmed baking sheet. Pour melted butter over the top and brush sides.
  • Let bread cool for 15 minutes or so, then serve warm. Once the bread is completely cooled, it can be sliced to use for sandwiches, toasted, or served plain.

BEER BREAD

Beer Bread image

Per Google.com, the #1 recipe for Beer Bread in the world! There are a few recipes for beer bread out there, but none as simple (and tasty!) as this one. You can even mix it in the baking pan for easy cleanup. This is sensational when served with soups or just as a snack, but don't expect it to be around very long when your family gets a taste of it! Be sure to use a sheet pan on the shelf below the pan to catch any excess butter that may drip during cooking.

Categories     Quick Breads

Time 1h3m

Yield 6-8 serving(s)

Number Of Ingredients 6

3 cups flour (sifted)
3 teaspoons baking powder (omit if using Self-Rising Flour)
1 teaspoon salt (omit if using Self-Rising Flour)
1/4 cup sugar
1 (12 ounce) can beer
1/2 cup melted butter (1/4 cup will do just fine)

Steps:

  • Preheat oven to 375 degrees.
  • Mix dry ingredients and beer.
  • Pour into a greased loaf pan.
  • Pour melted butter over mixture.
  • Bake 1 hour, remove from pan and cool for at least 15 minutes.
  • UPDATED NOTES: This recipe makes a very hearty bread with a crunchy, buttery crust. If you prefer a softer crust (like a traditional bread) mix the butter into the batter instead of pouring it over the top.
  • Sifting flour for bread recipes is a must-do. Most people just scoop the 1 cup measure in the flour canister and level it off. That compacts the flour and will turn your bread into a "hard biscuit" as some have described. That's because they aren't sifting their flour! If you do not have a sifter, use a spoon to spoon the flour into the 1 cup measure. Try it once the "correct" way and you will see an amazing difference in the end product.
  • I have had many email from you kind folks about using non-alcoholic beverages instead of beer. That is fine to do but I highly recommend adding a packet of Dry Active Yeast or 2 teaspoons of Bread (Machine) Yeast so that you get a proper rise.
  • The final result should be a thick, hearty and very tasteful bread, NOT A BRICK! ;).
  • Thank you all for the incredibly nice comments and those of you who left a bad review - learn to sift sift SIFT! You will be amazed at the results you get.

BEER BREAD

Beer Bread image

Thanks to a bottle of beer, this crazy-easy, one-bowl bread has the yeasty taste and texture of a traditional risen loaf but without any of the toil. It is also tender and incredibly moist. We like it served with a bowl of hearty winter stew or toasted, with butter, for breakfast.

Provided by Florence Fabricant

Categories     easy, breads, quick breads, side dish

Time 40m

Yield 1 large loaf

Number Of Ingredients 8

Unsalted butter, for greasing the pan
Cornmeal
3 cups all-purpose flour (see Tip)
3 teaspoons baking powder
1 teaspoon kosher salt
2 tablespoons granulated sugar
1 (12-ounce) can beer (the blander the better)
2 tablespoons unsalted butter, melted (optional)

Steps:

  • Heat oven to 375 degrees. Butter a 9-by-5-by-3-inch loaf pan and dust with cornmeal. For stovetop baking, use a heavy Dutch oven or similar pot that has been greased and dusted with cornmeal but not heated.
  • Mix flour, baking powder, salt and sugar and stir in the beer. Place batter in the pan. Oven baking will take about 35 minutes. For stovetop baking, cover the pan and place it on a heat shield over a low to medium flame and bake until a knife or cake tester comes out clean.
  • Remove from pan, drizzle with butter if desired and allow to cool completely before slicing. The bread has a texture similar to that of English muffins and tastes best toasted.

BEER BREAD II

Beer Bread II image

A medieval beer bread recipe. Definately a time consuming process, seeing as to how it calls for ingredients from brewing your own ale. This recipe is said to be a German bread recipe. The original recipe made eight loaves. I revised it to four loaves. You may change it to suit your needs as well. This bread was a bread made for feasts. Note that this bread doesn't take as long to make as it does to proof.

Provided by Wylder

Categories     Breads

Time 4h30m

Yield 4 loaves, 32 serving(s)

Number Of Ingredients 4

6 -8 cups hard white flour
2 cups brown ale, scum (barm)
3 cups barley malt mash (from a beer batch)
3 cups rolled oats

Steps:

  • Combine mash and oats with 5 cups of flour.
  • Add the sediment and combine well, stirring in one direction to develop gluten.
  • Turn out dough onto a heavily floured board and knead, drawing in approximately another 3 cups of flour.
  • It will have the consistency of a heavy biscuit dough.
  • Shape into a smooth ball and place in a lightly oiled large stainless bowl.
  • Cover and let rise in a warm, humid place until about double in bulk, about two hours.
  • Punch down and divide into four loaves.
  • Place loaves in lightly oiled bread pans, cover and let rise in a warm, humid place for about one hour.
  • Preheat oven to 400 degrees F and bake loaves for approximately one hour.
