This party dip makes an impressive presentation and has an interesting blend of flavors.

5 slices bacon
1 ½ cups whole almonds, raw
8 ounces cream cheese, softened
½ cup mayonnaise
1 tablespoon chopped green onions
½ teaspoon dried dill weed
pinch of freshly ground black pepper
1 teaspoon whole pine nuts
crackers

Steps:

  • Place bacon in a large, deep skillet. Cook over medium high heat until evenly brown. Drain, crumble, and set aside.
  • Preheat oven to 300 degrees F (150 degrees Celsius).
  • Arrange almonds on a baking sheet in a single layer. Bake in the preheated oven for 15 minutes, watching carefully and stirring occasionally to prevent burning. Remove from oven, and set aside to cool.
  • In a bowl, mix together softened cream cheese, mayonnaise, green onions, crumbled bacon, dill weed, and black pepper until well blended. Form mixture into a pinecone shape, and carefully place on a serving dish.
  • Beginning at the top of the "pinecone" with the points facing upward, press cooled almonds gently into cheese, each point slightly overlapping the bottom of the almond above. If desired, press a few pine nuts randomly between some of the almonds. Serve with crackers for spreading.

Adapted from the Almond Board of California. Hummus is used through out the Middle East, the Mediterranean, as well as many parts of India. There is no way of knowing where its origin began - though it is presumed to be somewhere in the Middle East. Test and Measure before posting.

24 ounces cooked chickpeas
3/4 cup roasted almond butter
1/4 cup lemon juice
3/4 ounce garlic, chopped (10-12 small garlic cloves)
3/4 tablespoon salt
1/2 tablespoon grated lemon zest
1/4 tablespoon red pepper flakes
1/3 cup water
salt and pepper

Steps:

  • In food processor, purée all ingredients except water until smooth.
  • Add water,a little at a time, and process until until you reach the desired consistency and the mixture is blended.
  • Refrigerate, covered. Enjoy!

This secretly healthy chocolate hummus recipe is surprisingly delicious.

1 can black beans
3 1/2 tbsp regular or dutch cocoa powder
1/2 cup sweetener of choice
1/3 cup fat source of choice (see note)
1/4 tsp salt
2 tsp pure vanilla extract
optional chocolate chips or add-ins of choice

Steps:

  • *Feel free to sub chickpeas or white beans for the black beans. Or you can use 1 1/2 cups cooked beans instead of canned.To make the chocolate hummus, drain and rinse beans well. Combine all ingredients except add-ins in a food processor until completely smooth like brownie batter. Stir in chocolate chips if using. (A few commenters had success with a blender, but a food processor will yield a smoother texture.) Leftovers can be covered and refrigerated 4-5 days. Beet, Chickpea, and Almond Dip with Pita Chips image

Number Of Ingredients 7

1 large (8-ounce) beet, peeled, cut into 3/4-inch cubes
1 cup drained canned garbanzo beans (chickpeas; from 15 1/2-ounce can)
3/4 cup extra-virgin olive oil plus more for chips
1/4 cup slivered almonds
5 garlic cloves, peeled
1 1/2 tablespoons (or more) red wine vinegar
6 7-inch-diameter pita breads

Steps:

  • Cook beet in medium saucepan of boiling salted water until tender, about 12 minutes. Drain; place in processor. Add garbanzo beans, 3/4 cup oil, almonds, and garlic. Blend until smooth. Add 1 1/2 tablespoons red wine vinegar and blend well. Season to taste with salt, pepper, and additional vinegar, if desired. Transfer dip to medium bowl. Can be made 1 day ahead. Cover and chill. Bring to room temperature before serving.
  • Preheat oven to 400°F. Brush pita breads on both sides with oil; sprinkle lightly with salt and pepper. Cut each bread into 8 wedges. Arrange wedges on rimmed baking sheets. Bake until lightly brown and crisp, about 12 minutes. Cool chips on sheets.
  • Place dip in center of platter. Surround with chips and serve.
