4 cups red cabbage , shredded
1/2 cup carrot, shredded
2 bok choy stalks (with leaves)
1 1/2 to 2 cups mung bean sprouts
2 teaspoons extra-virgin olive oil
1/4 cup rice vinegar
3/4 teaspoon sesame seed oil
2 teaspoons chopped fresh cilantro leaves, or as desired, optional, for garnish
1 tablespoon toasted sesame seeds, for garnish

Steps:

  • Gather the ingredients.
  • Wash the vegetables and drain thoroughly. Shred the cabbage and carrots.
  • Separate the bok choy stalks and leaves. Cut the stalks diagonally and the leaves straight across.
  • Toss the shredded cabbage, shredded carrots, bok choy, and mung bean sprouts in a large bowl. Set aside.
  • In a small bowl, whisk together the olive oil and rice vinegar. Whisk in the sesame seed oil.
  • Place the dressing in the bottom of a bowl, add the vegetables and toss again. Add the cilantro, if using, and sprinkle toasted sesame seeds on top. Chill until ready to serve.

Steps:

  • Preheat broiler. In a large bowl, combine pineapple, bok choy, cabbage and 1/3 cup salad dressing; toss to coat., Place chicken in a 15x10x1-in. baking pan. 1 red onion, thinly sliced
1/2 pound daikon, peeled and cut into fine strips
1 bunch radishes, thinly sliced
1/2 cup fine strips of basil
1/2 cup fine strips of mint
1/2 cup lime juice
1 tablespoon Dijon mustard
6 tablespoons fish sauce (see note)
3/4 cup vegetable oil
Kosher salt and freshly ground black pepper to taste

Steps:

  • In a large bowl, toss the bok choy, onion, daikon, radishes, basil and mint. Set aside.
  • In a blender, combine the lime juice, mustard and fish sauce and blend on high. While the motor is running, slowly drizzle in the oil until it is fully incorporated. Pour the mixture from the blender over the cabbage mixture and toss to coat. Season with salt and pepper. Refrigerate for 30 minutes.
  • Remove the slaw from the refrigerator and drain excess liquid. Serve with roast lamb or beef.

1/2 cup hoisin sauce
4 teaspoons sambal oelek, plus more for serving
5 tablespoons distilled white vinegar
1 red bell pepper, halved, seeded, and cut into 1/4-inch strips (1 1/2 cups)
1 small head bok choy, stems thinly sliced (1 cup), leaves reserved
Kosher salt and freshly ground pepper
1 pound ground pork
8 teaspoons mayonnaise
4 split-top hot-dog buns, such as King's Hawaiian
1/2 cup lightly packed fresh herbs, such as mint, cilantro, or basil

Steps:

  • Stir together hoisin, sambal oelek, and 1 tablespoon vinegar. In another bowl, stir together bell pepper, bok-choy stems, and remaining 1/4 cup vinegar. Season with salt and pepper.
  • Place pork in a medium nonstick skillet over medium-high heat. Season with salt and cook, breaking up with the back of a spoon, until cooked and beginning to brown, 5 to 6 minutes (there will be some liquid in skillet). 2 (16 ounce) bags coleslaw mix (with carrots and red cabbage)
1 bunch scallion, trimmed, sliced thinly
1 small red onion, halved, sliced thin
1/4 cup soy sauce
1 lemon, juice of
1/2 cup mayonnaise
2 tablespoons grated fresh ginger
2 tablespoons cider vinegar (or white or rice vinegar)
2 tablespoons dark brown sugar
1 teaspoon dark sesame oil
2 teaspoons sesame seeds (optional)
fresh ground black pepper (recipe calls for 20 grinds!)

Steps:

  • Toss the coleslaw mix together with the scallions and red onion in a large bowl until everthing is well mixed. You can make the slaw up to this point up to a day in advance as long as you keep it refrigerated.
  • When ready to serve, bring the slaw back to room temperature. Stir the dressing ingredients together in a small bowl until blended or shake together in a sealable plastic container.
  • Taste for salt and add a couple pinches if needed. Pour over the slaw, toss well, and serve within 1 hour or it will get wilted.
