CHOCOLATE CREAM DROPS
From Betty Crocker's 1958 "Dinner for Two" cookbook, chocolate cookies that seem a bit different than other chocolate cookie recipes I've tried. Update: The texture of these is much more like a cake than a cookie or a brownie. To make them more cooking like, I'd recommend using butter instead of shortening and full fat sour cream. Also I've updated to add an icing recipe which really makes these stand out.

Steps:
- Mix thoroughly shortening, sugars and egg. Stir in melted chocolate. Next stir in sour cream (or milk) and vanilla. Sift flour, soda, and salt together and stir into batter. Mix nuts into dough. Chill dough if soft.
- Heat oven to 375°F
- Drop rounded tablespoonfuls of dough about 2 inches apart on greased baking sheet. Bake about 10 min until soft, when touched lightly with finger, almost no impression remains.
- For icing, melt chocolate and butter together (about 1 minute on High in microwave, stir after 30 seconds) then mix in powdered sugar until spreadable. If you need to refrigerate this and it gets hard, soften in microwave on high for 10-15 seconds. Spread icing on cookies when cool.
CHOCOLATE DROPS - LOW CARB
This is a nice option to candy while following a low carb diet. There are 2 carbs a piece. These don't keep well, so eat them up!

Steps:
- Melt the first 3 ingredients in microwave.
- Stir well to combine.
- Add the remaining ingredients, stir and drop by tablespoon on waxed paper.
- You should have 12 drops.
- Chill until firm- at least 1 hour.
- Keep in refrigerator.

CHOCOLATE-PECAN DROPS

Steps:
- With an electric mixer on medium speed, blend together butter and sugar. Add 4 pouches chocolate, reserving remaining pouches for another recipe, milk and vanilla; blend well. In a separate bowl, whisk together flour, baking powder and salt. Add to chocolate mixture; stir in nuts. Cover dough and chill 2 to 3 hours. Drop dough by rounded teaspoonfuls onto an ungreased baking sheet. Bake at 375 degrees for 7 minutes. Let cool on baking sheet 2 minutes; transfer to wire racks. Spread cookies with desired frosting and sprinkle with red sugar. For Frosting: Combine powdered sugar, hot water and almond extract in a medium bowl. Divide frosting between 2 bowls. To one bowl add anise extract and desired amount of red food coloring; stir well to blend. To the second bowl, stir in peppermint extract and desired amount of green food coloring; stir to blend thoroughly.

Steps:
- Combine margarine, sugars, extracts and eggs in a large bowl; mix well.
- Add remaining ingredients except candy canes; blend well.
- Chill for 15 minutes, or until dough is easy to handle.
- Roll well-rounded teaspoons of dough into balls; place on parchment paper-lined baking sheets.
- Bake at 325 degrees for 11 to 13 minutes, or until cookies are puffed and centers are set.
- Remove from oven; with back of a spoon, immediately and gently make a well in center of cookies. Spoon about 1/2 teaspoon of crushed candy into well.
- Let stand for 2 to 3 minutes before removing from baking sheet.
