Steps:
- Preheat oven to 350 degree F. Spray half sheet pan (size approximately 18x13-inches, I use this one from Amazon) with baking spray. Set aside.
- For the cake, in a large bowl, combine the sugar, cocoa, flour, baking powder, baking soda and salt. Mix until blended.
- Add in the eggs, oil, buttermilk, and hot water. Whisk together until fully combined. Pour into prepared baking sheet.
- Bake for 25 minutes, until edges pull away from the pan and a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean. Remove from oven and cool.
- While cake is cooling, prepare chocolate icing. In a small saucepan, combine the butter, buttermilk, and cocoa powder. Whisk until smooth over medium high heat. Bring to a boil, and remove from heat as soon as it boils.
- Pour chocolate mixture into a mixing bowl and add in the powdered sugar. Beat until smooth. Pour over cake (it's okay if the cake isn't completely cooled). Add sprinkles.
- Cool completely and enjoy!

Steps:
- For the cake: Preheat the oven to 350 degrees F.
- In a large bowl, combine the flour, sugar and salt. Stir together and set aside.
- In another bowl, mix the buttermilk, baking soda, vanilla and eggs. Mix with a fork and set aside.
- In a medium saucepan, melt the butter and add the cocoa. Whisk together to combine. Meanwhile, bring 1 cup water to a boil. When the butter is melted, pour the boiling water in the pan. Allow to bubble for a moment, then turn off the heat. Pour the chocolate mixture into the flour mixture. Stir together for a moment to cool the chocolate, then pour in the egg mixture. Stir together until smooth, then pour into an ungreased jelly roll pan (or rimmed baking sheet) and bake for 20 minutes.
- While the cake is baking, make the icing: Melt the butter in a saucepan over medium-low heat. Add the cocoa powder and stir until smooth. Add the milk, vanilla and powdered sugar. Stir together. Dump in the pecans and stir until well combined.
- Immediately after removing the cake from the oven, pour the warm icing over the top. You'll want to avoid doing much spreading, so try to distribute it evenly as you pour.

Steps:
- Preheat oven to 400 degrees F. Grease a 10 x 15-inch jelly roll pan and set aside.
- Place butter, shortening, water and cocoa powder in a saucepan. Bring to a boil; remove from heat.
- In a large bowl, whisk together sugar, flour, baking soda and salt. Pour the hot butter mixture over the flour mixture. Use an electric mixer to beat on medium speed for 1 minute.
- Add eggs, vanilla extract and buttermilk. Beat on medium speed for 1 more minute.
- Pour the batter into the prepared pan. Tap on the counter a few times to release air bubbles. Bake for 20 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean. Place the cake pan on a wire rack and immediately prepare the frosting.
- If your cake has a rounded top on it when it comes out of the oven, use your hands, oven mits, or a dish towel to gently press down on the top of the cake to create a flat surface. You need a relatively flat top so that the icing will not run off the sides.
- Place butter, cocoa powder and milk in a saucepan. Bring to a boil; remove from heat. Add the sifted confectioners' sugar and the vanilla extract; beat until smooth.
- Pour the hot frosting over the warm cake. Spread evenly, then set the cake on a wire rack to cool completely. The frosting will firm up as it cools. Slice into squares and serve!

CHOCOLATE SHEET CAKE
Meet the Cook: The biggest compliment I've ever gotten on this cake might have come when I baked it for my son's 11th birthday party last fall. The children were full after eating pizza, veggies and dip, etc. - but each of them asked for seconds! -Dianne Medwid, Dauphin, Manitoba
