DAD'S COLA BURGERS

Before you hand out the drinks, save a little soda to make these burgers. Cola helps soften the texture and kick up the flavor. Used in the meat mixture and brushed on during cooking, it takes this football favorite to another level. -Emily Nelson, Green Bay, Wisconsin

Number Of Ingredients 9

1/2 cup crushed saltines (about 15 crackers)
1/2 cup (nondiet) cola, divided
6 tablespoons French salad dressing, divided
1 large egg
2 tablespoons grated Parmesan cheese
1/2 teaspoon salt, divided
1-1/2 pounds lean ground beef (90% lean)
6 hamburger buns, split
Optional toppings: Lettuce leaves and tomato and red onion slices

Steps:

  • Combine saltine crumbs, 1/4 cup cola, 3 tablespoons salad dressing, egg, Parmesan cheese and 1/4 teaspoon salt. Add beef; mix well. Shape into six 3/4-in.-thick patties (the mixture will be moist); sprinkle with remaining salt. Combine remaining 1/4 cup cola and 3 tablespoons salad dressing., Grill patties, covered, over medium heat 3 minutes per side. Brush with cola mixture. Grill, brushing and turning occasionally, until a thermometer reads 160°, 3-4 minutes longer. Serve on buns; if desired, top with lettuce, tomato and onion.

1/4 cup sour cream
2 teaspoons dried parsley flakes
1 teaspoon dried thyme
1 teaspoon salt
1/2 teaspoon pepper
2-1/2 pounds ground beef
10 hamburger buns, split
Optional: Cheese, lettuce leaves, sliced tomato, pickles, sliced onion, ketchup and mayonnaise

Steps:

  • In a large bowl, combine the first 5 ingredients; add beef and mix gently. Shape into 10 patties. , Grill, uncovered, over medium heat for 4-5 minutes on each side or until meat is no longer pink. Serve on buns with desired toppings.

1 large egg
1/2 cup cola, divided
1/2 cup crushed saltines (about 15)
6 tablespoons French salad dressing, divided
2 tablespoons grated Parmesan cheese
1/4 teaspoon salt
1-1/2 pounds ground beef
6 hamburger buns, split
Optional toppings: Lettuce leaves, sliced tomato, sliced red onion, pickles and sliced cheese

Steps:

  • In a large bowl, combine egg, 1/4 cup cola, cracker crumbs, 2 tablespoons salad dressing, Parmesan cheese and salt. Crumble beef over mixture and mix well. Shape into six 3/4-in.-thick patties (mixture will be moist). , In a small bowl, combine remaining cola and salad dressing; set aside., Grill burgers, covered, over medium heat for 3 minutes on each side. Brush with cola mixture. Continue grilling to desired doneness, 6-8 minutes, brushing and turning occasionally. For medium-rare, a thermometer should read 135°; medium, 140°; medium-well, 145°. Serve on buns. Serve burgers with optional toppings as desired.
