EASY HOMEMADE WASSAIL



Easy Homemade Wassail image

Hot wassail is a delicious drink that the whole family can enjoy from two to ninety-two. It smells like Christmas in a mug.

1 teaspoon of whole cloves or 1/4 teaspoon of ground cloves or allspice
4-6 cinnamon sticks
1 cup fresh cranberries
8 ounces of orange juice
1 can frozen lemonade concentrate
8 ounces cranberry juice
1 gallon of apple cider or spiced cider
lemon and orange slices for garnish

Steps:

  • In a large pot on the stove or in a slow cooker, add all of your ingredients.
  • Cook on low heat for 45 minutes.
  • Garnish with fresh orange and lemon slices.
  • Serve your hot wassail and toast!

2 cups cranberry juice cocktail
1 cup sugar
1/2 cup water
1/4 cup lemon juice
4 cinnamon sticks
1/4 cup brandy
lemon slice

Steps:

  • In a large saucepan, mix together red wine, cranberry juice, sugar, water, lemon juice, and cinnamon sticks.
  • Heat just until mixture bubbles around the edges; reduce heat.
  • Simmer, uncovered, for 10 minutes.
  • Remove cinnamon sticks.
  • Stir in brandy.
  • Ladle mixture into cups or mugs; garnish with a lemon slice.

1 cup sugar
4 cinnamon sticks
3 lemon slices
1/2 cup water
2 cups pineapple juice
2 cups orange juice
1/2 cup lemon juice
6 cups dry red wine
1 cup dry sherry
lemon slice (to garnish)

Steps:

  • Combine the sugar, cinnamon sitcks, lemon slices, and water in a large saucepan and bring to a boil over high heat. Boil for 5 minutes and strain. Discard cinnamon sticks and lemon slices.
  • Pour the pineapple juice, orange juice, lemon juice, wine and sherry into a large saucepan and simmer over medium heat for several minutes. Do not bring to a rolling boil!
  • Combine the wine mixture and sugar syrup in a serving bowl. Ladle into mugs and garnish with lemon slices.
  • Serve hot.

2 (3 inch) cinnamon sticks
1 tablespoon whole cloves
½ cup honey

Steps:

  • In a large stock pot over medium heat, combine the apple cider, orange juice, pineapple juice, cinnamon sticks, cloves and honey. Bring to a boil, then simmer over low heat, or transfer to a slow cooker to keep warm while serving. Strain out cinnamon sticks and cloves before serving if desired.

Steps:

  • Pour apple juice, orange juice, and lemon juice into a large pot. Place the cinnamon sticks, brown sugar, cloves, and allspice onto the center of a 8 inch square piece of cheesecloth. Gather together the edges of the cheesecloth, and tie with kitchen twine to secure then add to the juice mixture. Float orange slices on top of the juices. Simmer over medium heat for 1 hour.

2 quarts apple cider
1-1/2 cups orange juice
3/4 cup pineapple juice
1 tablespoon brown sugar
1/2 teaspoon lemon juice
2 cinnamon sticks (3 inches)
Dash ground cinnamon
Dash ground cloves

Steps:

  • In a large saucepan, combine all of the ingredients. Bring to a boil. Reduce heat; cover and simmer for 20-30 minutes. Discard cinnamon sticks. Serve hot in mugs.
