1/2 cup sour cream
3 tablespoons white vinegar
1 tablespoon sugar
Pepper to taste
4 medium cucumbers, peeled if desired and thinly sliced
1 small sweet onion, thinly sliced and separated into rings

Steps:

  • In a large bowl, whisk sour cream, vinegar, sugar and pepper until blended. Add cucumbers and onion; toss to coat. Refrigerate, covered, at least 4 hours. Serve with a slotted spoon.

I don't remember where I got this recipe from but it sure is good. It makes a great dish for gatherings. Everybody seems to want the recipe.

1/2 cup sour cream
1/2 cup Miracle Whip
1/4 teaspoon salt
1 tablespoon sugar
2 tablespoons vinegar
1 medium onion
2 medium cucumbers
dill weed or fresh chives, to your tasting

Steps:

  • Peel Cucumbers and scoop out seeds with a spoon.
  • Cut into bite size pieces and sprinkle with salt (no special amount).
  • Let drain for about an hour then rinse cucumbers well with cold water.
  • Cut onions into bite size pieces and add to cucumbers.
  • Mix sour cream, miracle whip, salt sugar, vinegar, and dill weed or chives together and pour over cucumbers & onions.
  • Stir thoroughly.
  • Refrigerate for at least an hour.

10 cups Cucumbers, peeled and thinly sliced
1 Onion, thinly sliced
1 1/2 cups Miracle Whip
1/2 cup Sugar
3 Tbsp Apple Cider Vinegar

Steps:

  • Put the cucumbers in a large container. Cover the cucumbers with salt water (about 1 tsp salt to 1 cup of cold water). Refrigerate for about 2 hours.
  • Drain soaked cucumbers, rinse thoroughly, and place into a large container with sliced onion. In a separate bowl, stir together Miracle Whip, sugar, and apple cider vinegar. Pour dressing over cucumbers and onion. Stir to combine.
  • Refrigerate salad for several hours to overnight. Flavors need time to mingle.

2 cups peeled pearl onions
¼ cup butter
1 ½ cups cold whole milk
¼ cup quick-mixing flour (such as Wondra®), or more as needed

Steps:

  • Bring water and salt to a boil in a small saucepan; cook onions in the boiling water until just tender, 5 to 10 minutes. Drain, reserving 1/2 cup water in saucepan, and return onions to pan. Add butter to onions.
  • Mix milk and quick-mixing flour together in a bowl; add to onion mixture. Cook and stir over medium-low heat until thickened, 10 to 15 minutes. Stir in more quick-mixing flour if mixture is too thin.

Steps:

  • Peel cucumbers and slice thin. Layer in shallow dish, sprinkling each layer with salt. Let stand overnight. In the morning, drain cucumbers and rinse. Let dry on paper towels. Slice onions thin. Mix gently with cucumber slices. Beat together the mayonnaise or salad dressing, sugar and vinegar until creamy. Stir into mixed cucumbers and onions (The dressing should be plentiful so the salad is creamy. Increase amounts of dressing ingredients, proportionally, if needed).

4 cucumbers, peeled & sliced
1-2 onions, peeled & sliced
1 c mayonnaise
1 c sour cream
3 Tbsp apple cider vinegar (more or less per your taste)
1/2 c sugar (more or less per your taste)
1 tsp garlic powder
1 tsp onion powder
1 tsp dill weed
1/2 c salt (will discard later)

Steps:

  • 1. Mix mayo, sour cream, vinegar, sugar, garlic, onion, & dill weed in a medium bowl.
  • 2. Peel and slice cucumbers and onions and put in a strainer. Pour salt over the cucumbers and mix until well coated. Allow to sit for 1/2 an hour or so. Rinse salt off and pat cucumbers dry with a paper towel. This process brings the moisture out of the cucumbers so the recipe stays creamy instead of liquidy.
  • 3. Stir cucumbers into mayo mixture and refrigerate for at least 2 hours. It will even taste better the next day just as the old fashioned cucumbers and onions would!

  • Peel cucumbers and slice.
  • Slice onions.

1 tablespoon sea salt
1 ½ cups mayonnaise, or more to taste
2 tablespoons vinegar

1 teaspoon garlic powder
1 teaspoon ground black pepper

Steps:

  • Mix cucumbers, sweet onion, and sea salt together in a bowl. Cover bowl with plastic wrap and let sit for 30 minutes.
  • Turn cucumber mixture into a colander set over a bowl or in a sink; let drain, stirring occasionally, until most of the liquid has drained, about 30 minutes more. Transfer drained cucumber mixture to a large bowl.
  • Stir mayonnaise, vinegar, sugar, dill, garlic powder, and black pepper together in a bowl with a whisk until smooth; pour over the cucumber mixture and stir to coat vegetables with the dressing.
  • Cover bowl with plastic wrap and refrigerate at least 2 hours.
