  1. macaroni
  2. butter
  3. flour
  4. whole milk
  5. prepared mustard
  6. cheddar cheese


  1. in skillet on medium heat , melt butter
  2. quickly whisk in flour to form a paste
  3. immediately add milk , whisking constantly , to form a smooth medium white sauce
  4. cook until mixture gnently boils and sauce thickens , adding a little more milk to make the sauce the consistency of gravy
  5. add mustard and cheese , stirring to mix
  6. cook until cheese melts and sauce is creamy
  7. reduce heat to low and add macaroni , stirring to mix well and heat macaroni
  8. serve
