A creamy white icing that looks like whipped cream.

1 cup milk
2 tablespoons all-purpose flour
1 cup butter, softened
1 cup white sugar
1 teaspoon vanilla extract

Steps:

  • Whisk milk into flour in small saucepan until smooth. Heat and stir until it boils and thickens. Cool thoroughly.
  • Cream butter, sugar and vanilla in bowl until light and fluffy. Add thickened milk. Beat until mixture resembles whipped cream. Makes enough to fill and frost 2 layer cake, about 3 1/2 cups.

A good friend passed this recipe to me back in the early 80's. I was so impressed with the flavor and texture that I had to have the recipe. It taste and looks like whipped cream. "Give it a try and see if I lie." Please follow the directions...and it is regular granulated sugar...not powdered...=) Note: You need to cook the milk/flour mixture for at least 30+ minutes to get to the right consistency...once it cools it's like a paste... I made 1/2 recipe and it covered a 9 inch pan cake...

1 cup milk
5 tablespoons flour
1 pinch salt
1 cup sugar
1 cup margarine (or 1/2 cup margarine & 1/2 cup shortening)
1/2 teaspoon vanilla

Steps:

  • Mix the first three ingredients together in a sauce pan.
  • Cook over Medium heat until thick, stirring constantly.
  • Remove from heat and cool completely.
  • Cream sugar, shortening (margarine) and vanilla.
  • Add cooled flour/milk mixture by the spoonful beating after each spoonful.
  • Frost Cake.

1 cup packed brown sugar
1/2 cup butter
1/4 cup 2% milk
1 teaspoon vanilla extract
2-1/2 to 3 cups confectioners' sugar

Steps:

  • In a heavy saucepan, combine the brown sugar, butter and milk; bring to a boil over medium heat. Cook and stir for 2 minutes. Remove from the heat; stir in vanilla. Cool to lukewarm. Gradually beat in confectioners' sugar until frosting achieves spreading consistency.

Yield Makes enough for one 3-layer 9-inch cake

Number Of Ingredients 5

6 tablespoons all-purpose flour
2 cups milk
2 cups (4 sticks) unsalted butter, softened
2 cups sugar
2 teaspoons vanilla extract

Steps:

  • In a medium-size saucepan, whisk the flour into the milk until smooth. Place over medium heat and, stirring constantly, cook until the mixture becomes very thick and begins to bubble, 10-15 minutes. Cover with waxed paper placed directly on the surface and cool to room temperature, about 30 minutes.
  • In a large bowl, on the medium high speed of an electric mixer, beat the butter for 3 minutes, until smooth and creamy. Gradually add the sugar, beating continuously for 3 minutes until fluffy. Add the vanilla and beat well.
  • Add the cooled milk mixture, and continue to beat on the medium high speed for 5 minutes, until very smooth and noticeably whiter in color. Cover and refrigerate for 15 minutes (no less and no longer-set a timer!). Use immediately.

6 ounces spaghetti
2 tablespoons salted butter
6 cloves garlic, minced
1 pound shrimp
1 small yellow onion, diced
½ cup sliced fresh mushrooms
½ cup white wine
5 ounces oil-packed sun-dried tomatoes, drained and cut into strips
3 cups baby spinach leaves
1 ¾ cups half-and-half
⅔ cup freshly grated Parmesan cheese
2 teaspoons dried Italian herb seasoning
1 tablespoon water
1 teaspoon cornstarch
1 tablespoon chopped fresh parsley

Steps:

  • Bring a large pot of lightly salted water to a boil. Cook spaghetti in the boiling water, stirring occasionally, until tender yet firm to the bite, about 12 minutes. Drain and keep warm.
  • While the pasta is cooking, melt butter in a large skillet over medium heat. Add garlic and cook until fragrant, about 1 minute. Add shrimp and cook until are bright pink on the outside and the meat is opaque, 2 to 3 minutes. Remove shrimp and garlic to a plate.
  • Add onion and mushrooms to the hot skillet; cook until softened, 5 to 7 minutes. Add white wine and cook until reduced by half, 2 to 3 minutes. Add sun-dried tomatoes and cook for 1 to 2 minutes.
  • Reduce heat to low. Add spinach and half-and-half; cook until spinach wilts, 2 to 3 minutes. Stir in Parmesan cheese and Italian seasoning; simmer until cheese has melted, about 3 minutes.
  • If sauce is not thick enough, stir water and cornstarch together in a small bowl. Clear a spot in the center of the skillet and add cornstarch mixture to the center of the pan. Let it simmer while stirring the mixture quickly until the sauce thickens.
  • Add shrimp back to the sauce and cook until reheated, about 1 minute. Serve sauce over pasta. Top with parsley.
