Delicious Crockpot style sauerkraut and hot dogs. Easy and delicious!

Ingredients

2 lb sauerkraut (deli style in bag or canned. Drain each)
2 carrots (chopped in disks or smaller)
2 potatoes (fist size, any type. Peel if russet type, cut into bite sized pieces. )
1 tsp caraway seeds
1/2 Cup chicken broth (any type broth will do or equivalent broth concentrate)
1 tsp white sugar
1 tsp garlic powder
1 tsp onion powder
8 hot dogs (Cut into pieces or disks)
1/2 Cup sour cream (Optional)
salt and pepper to taste (Do NOT add salt until you taste just before serving.)

Steps:

Cut all ingredients to correct size.
Add all ingredients except sour cream to the crockpot.
Mix well and apply lid. Set the crockpot on low and cook for 6-8 hours or on high for 4 hours.
30 minutes before serving, add the sour cream, stir and replace the lid. This item is optional and adds a wonderful creaminess. Add salt and pepper to taste. Actually taste, because it will already be salty from the sauerkraut.

Ingredients

1 lb hamburger
1/2 cup onion, chopped
1/2 teaspoon salt
1/2 teaspoon pepper
1 (10 1/2 ounce) can cream of mushroom soup
1 (10 1/2 ounce) can cream of chicken soup
2/3 cup milk
1 tablespoon butter
12 ounces egg noodles, cooked 5 minutes, and drained
3 cups shredded cheddar cheese
1 (15 ounce) can canned sauerkraut, drained

Steps:

Brown hamburger and onion, salt and pepper, drain. Add soups and milk. Stir.
Cook noodles, partially, about 5 minutes. They will finish cooking during baking time.
Either using a crock-pot(low heat), or a casserole dish, grease with butter, then layer in order, 1/2 of each. Noodles, sauerkraut, hamburger mixture, cheese.
Repeat.
Either cook in crock-pot on low 4 hours, or bake in a 350 oven, for 45 minutes, until hot and bubbly.

This is so simple to make but tastes so good! My mom made this for us when we were younger and still a favorite of mine. Smoked sausage could also be used but I prefer the hot dogs. Serve this over mashed potatoes for total comfort food.

8 hot dogs, I use Ball Park
28 ounces sauerkraut

Steps:

In a large skillet add the sauerkraut. Place hot dogs on top of the kraut.
Cover and let simmer 15-20 minutes or until hot dogs are plump and hot.
Serve over mashed potatoes.
