Here's a hearty home-style dinner your family will love after a busy day. The slow-cooked beef is wonderful served over mashed potatoes or noodles. -Judy Long, Limestone, Tennessee

Ingredients

1/3 cup all-purpose flour
6 beef cube steaks (4 ounces each)
1 tablespoon canola oil
1 large onion, sliced and separated into rings
3 cups water, divided
1 envelope brown gravy mix
1 envelope mushroom gravy mix
1 envelope onion gravy mix
Hot mashed potatoes or cooked noodles

Steps:

Place flour in shallow dish. Add steaks, 1 or 2 at a time, and turn to coat completely. , In a skillet, cook steaks in oil until lightly browned on each side. Transfer to a 3-qt. slow cooker. Add the onion and 2 cups water. Cover and cook on low for 8 hours or until meat is tender. , In a bowl, whisk together gravy mixes with remaining water. Add to slow cooker; cook 30 minutes longer. Serve over mashed potatoes or noodles.

Ingredients

1/2 cup all-purpose flour
1/2 teaspoon salt
1 dash pepper
4 cube steaks
2 tablespoons vegetable oil
1 medium onion, sliced
2 (15 ounce) cans sliced potatoes, drained
2 (14 1/2 ounce) cans French style green beans, drained
4 ounces mushrooms, drained
2 (10 3/4 ounce) cans condensed golden mushroom soup, undiluted

Steps:

In a resealable plastic bag, combine flour, salt and pepper.
Add steaks and shake to coat.
In a skillet, brown steaks on both sides in oil.
Set aside and keep warm.
Add onion, potatoes, green beans, mushrooms and soup to skillet.
Return steaks to skillet.
Cover and simmer for 15 minutes or until meat is tender.

Season steaks with salt and pepper. Mix flour and garlic powder in a large shallow plate and dredge steaks. Reserve remaining dredge mixture.
In a large skillet over medium-high heat, heat oil. Fry steaks in batches until deeply golden, about 2 minutes per side. Transfer steaks to a plate.
Reduce heat to medium and add onion to pan. Cook, scraping down the bottom of pan, until onions are softened and turn golden, about 10 minutes.
Melt butter into onions, then sprinkle in onion soup mix and 1 tablespoon of reserved dredge mixture. Cook, stirring constantly until bubbling and beginning to turn a golden color, another 10 minutes.
Gradually add water, a 1/4 cup at a time. Let simmer lightly until gravy is thickened. Transfer steaks to pan with gravy and turn to coat.
