Dressing 1 Low Sodium Italian Dressing


i make salad dressings since commercial ones contain way too much sodium. this is a recipe from betty crocker's cookbook, but i reduced the sodium, sugar, and substituted roasted garlic for raw.

  • blend all ingredients
  • refrigerate 2 hours , if possible , before serving
  • shake before serving

Italian Dressing - Low Sodium image

  • 1/2 cup canola oil or 1/2 cup olive oil
  • 1/4 cup white wine vinegar
  • 2 teaspoons dried basil
  • 1 1/2 teaspoons Mrs. Dash seasoning mix (or other salt-like seasoning of choice)
  • artificial sweetener (to equal 1 teaspoon of sugar)
  • 1/2 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1 tablespoon light mayonnaise (half the calories)
  • 3 tablespoons water


I get raves when I bring tossed salads to dinner parties because I also make my own dressing. This vinaigrette is quite easy, using staples from your pantry and doesn't use salt! Bulk up on the lemon juice for extra zing. You can also substitute tarragon vinegar for a different feel. Serve over a tossed salad, antipasto, or as a quick marinade for beef, chicken, or pork.
