French Baguette with crispy and golden crust. Nothing beats hot-off-the-oven baguettes to accompany a family meal. This is a fail-proof baguette recipe!

½ cup plus 3 tablespoons water
1 pinch instant yeast
1 1/4 cups all-purpose flour
½ cup plus 3 tablespoons water
1 teaspoon salt
1/2 + 1/8 teaspoon instant yeast
2 1/2 cups all-purpose flour

Steps:

  • The night before, dissolve the yeast into the water for the Poolish, then mix in the all-purpose flour. Cover and let it ferment at room temperature for 12-16 hours, or overnight. Once the Poolish has bubbles breaking on top and has started to wrinkle, it's ready.
  • Transfer the Poolish into the bowl of a stand mixer attached with a dough hook. Add water, salt, yeast and all-purpose flour and knead the dough on slow speed for 2-3 minutes. Cover and let it rise for two hours, giving it a stretch-and-fold at the one hour mark.
  • Divide the dough into three equal pieces. Cover and let rest for about 20 minutes. Shape into baguettes about 12 inches logs and cover, letting them rise for about 60 to 90 minutes.
  • Score and bake on a preheated oven at 450°F (232°C). Place a tray of water below the baguette while baking to create steam in the oven. Bake for about 25 minutes. Remove from oven, let cool and serve.

BBQ Chicken French Bread Pizzas with Smoked Mozzarella image

Sweet and smoky flavors make this quick and easy pizza a new favorite.

2 teaspoons vegetable oil
1 medium yellow onion, thinly sliced
1 (12-14") soft loaf French or Italian bread, split in half lengthwise
1 garlic clove, smashed
2 cups shredded rotisserie chicken
1/2 cup plus 2 tablespoons barbecue sauce, divided
3/4 cup coarsely grated smoked mozzarella (about 3 ounces)
3 tablespoons coarsely chopped fresh cilantro

Steps:

  • Position rack in top third of oven and preheat to 425°F. Heat oil over low in a medium skillet. Cook onion, stirring occasionally, until soft and translucent, about 10 minutes. Set aside.
  • Place bread, cut side up, on a rimmed baking sheet and bake 5 minutes. Remove from oven and rub cut sides with garlic.
  • Toss chicken with 1/4 cup barbecue sauce in a medium bowl. Spread remaining 6 Tbsp. sauce on cut sides of bread. Layer reserved onions on sauce, then top with chicken mixture and mozzarella.
  • Bake until cheese is melted and golden brown, about 10 minutes. Top with cilantro.

3 tablespoons butter
1 medium onion, thinly sliced
1 cup sliced mushrooms, caps only
2 boneless skinless chicken breast halves (pounded thin)
1/4 teaspoon dried thyme leaves, crushed (optional)
salt & fresh ground pepper, to taste
crushed red pepper flakes, to taste (optional)
garlic powder
mayonnaise, for serving (optional)
mustard, for serving (optional)
1 French baguette, halved lengthwise (about 12-inch long)
3/4 cup jarlsberg cheese or 3/4 cup swiss cheese, shredded
2 slices bacon, crisp-cooked and crumbled

Steps:

  • In a 10" nonstick skillet, melt butter & crushed red pepper flakes(if using) over medium high heat and cook onions; uncovered stirring occasionally, 15 minutes or until onions are golden. (if desired add a bit of brn sugar & it will help the onions caramelize).
  • Remove onions from skillet and keep warm.
  • Sprinkle with garlic powder.
  • In same skillet melt 1 tablespoon butter over medium-high heat and cook chicken 4 minutes or until chicken is throughly cooked, turning once.
  • In same skillet, melt remaining butter over medium heat and brown mushrooms for about 6 minutes, till all water is absorbed.
  • To serve, arrange chicken on 1/2 bread, then top with hot onions, mushrooms, cheese and bacon.
  • Bake at 375ºF for 5 minutes or until cheese is melted.
  • Top with remaining bread.
  • To serve, cut in half.
  • Sprinkle with thyme and, if desired, salt and ground black pepper, to taste.

  • Preheat the over to 350°F (180°C)
  • Cut the baguette in half and place bread cut-side up on a prepared baking sheet.
  • Take your barbecue sauce and spread a layer of sauce over each piece of the baguette.
  • Once complete, you can sprinkle mozzarella cheese over each piece.
  • Then add shredded chicken, and sliced red onion.
  • BAKE for 10 minutes

  • To prepare this easy recipe, mix yeast, water, bread flour, sugar and salt and knead a soft dough. You can also use a dough mixing machine, if you have one. Grease a bowl or a flat dish with oil or butter on all sides. Make sure that the dish has a holding capacity of more than the total dough available. Put the dough in, cover the dish and let it rise for 30 minutes. The dough should get doubled after yeast is activated. If a dent remains on the dough surface after you touch it, it is ready for the next step.
  • Transfer the dough on a clean and floured surface. Now, knead and pound it again. Divide the total dough into two equal parts, making rectangles of approximately 8x12 inches. Roll the dough back and forth and create pointed ends with both the portions. After making sure that there are no air bubbles in the dough, put the loaves on a greased baking tray about 3-inches apart from each other. Now, use a dull blade to diagonally slice the surface at 3-4 places on each loaf. Cover the tray and let it rise again for 30 mins. After 30 minutes, the dough will double up again.
  • Brush the surface of the bread with egg yolk mixed with water. Heat the oven at 375 degrees Fahrenheit. While preheating, put a dish with water inside so that it fills with steam. This is important for a crusty exterior. After heating the oven, put in the loaves and bake until golden brown or for 20 to 25 minutes.
