1 8 oz. cream cheese (softened)
1 14 oz. sweetened condensed milk
1 5 oz. instant vanilla pudding mix
3 cups cold milk
1 tsp vanilla extract
3 8 oz. whipped topping (thawed (or 6 cups homemade whipped cream))
4 bananas (sliced)
1/2 12 oz. box Vanilla Wafers

Steps:

  • In a large bowl, beat cream cheese until fluffy and with no clumps. Add sweetened condensed milk, pudding mix, cold milk and vanilla and beat until smooth.
  • Fold in 8 oz. whipped cream and mix until combined. Let chill in fridge for 30 minutes.
  • Line the bottom of a trifle dish with vanilla wafers around the edge. Add half the pudding mixture and spread across, topped with a layer of sliced bananas. Add a layer of whipped topping. Repeat layers. Nilla wafers - pudding mixture - bananas - whipped topping.
  • Top with more wafers and banana slices if desired. Refrigerate for at least an hour before serving.

4 large egg yolks
6 tablespoons water
4 cups milk
5 large ripe bananas, mashed, or more to taste
1 teaspoon vanilla

  • Combine sugar and flour in a large bowl.
  • Combine egg yolks and water in a second bowl and beat with an electric mixer until light and fluffy. Add the sugar mixture and mix until batter is well combined.

1/2 cup sugar
3 tablespoons cornstarch
3 cups heavy cream
4 large egg yolks
1 tablespoon unsalted butter
1 tablespoon vanilla extract
3 ripe bananas
1/2 cup unsalted butter, softened
1 cup sugar
1 large egg
2 teaspoons vanilla extract
3/4 teaspoon baking powder
1 1/3 cups all-purpose flour
1 tablespoon milk
Pinch of salt
2 cups heavy cream
1/2 cup confectioners' sugar
Big splash of vanilla extract
Pinch of salt

Steps:

  • For the pudding: Combine the sugar and cornstarch in a skillet. Gradually stir in the cream, making sure that all of the cornstarch dissolves. Set over medium heat and stir continuously, dragging the spoon along the bottom of the pan until the mixture starts to thicken.
  • Whisk the egg yolks in a bowl. Mix a spoonful of the hot cream mixture into the eggs to warm them without cooking. Add the warm egg mixture to the skillet with the cream, then add the butter and vanilla. Stir until the butter is melted; remove from the heat and pour into a heat-proof bowl. Cover with plastic wrap, pressing onto the surface of the pudding. Set aside to cool.
  • Mash the bananas in a bowl, add them to the cooled pudding and mix together until well incorporated.
  • For the vanilla wafers: Preheat the oven to 350 degrees F.
  • With an electric hand mixer, beat together the butter and sugar until combined. Next, add the egg, vanilla and baking powder and beat until smooth and fluffy. Add the flour, milk and salt and beat until completely incorporated.
  • Use 2 spoons to drop teaspoon-size dollops of the batter onto ungreased baking sheets. With a dampened finger, smooth the tops of the cookies. Bake until light brown around the edges, 6 to 7 minutes, rotating the baking sheets halfway through for even cooking. Allow to cool.
  • For the whipped Cream: Pour the cream into a large mixing bowl and beat using an electric mixer. Once the cream starts to thicken, add the confectioners' sugar, vanilla and salt and beat until light and fluffy.
  • Line the bottom of a trifle dish with some vanilla wafers, then add a layer of banana pudding and a layer of whipped cream. Continue to layer, ending with a layer of pudding. Refrigerate for 2 to 4 hours before serving.

1 egg
2 egg yolks
1 tablespoon all-purpose flour
1 ½ cups milk
6 bananas, peeled and sliced
1 (16 ounce) package vanilla wafer cookies
2 egg whites

Steps:

  • Preheat the oven to 425 degrees F (220 degrees C).
  • Line the bottom of a 1 1/2 quart casserole dish with vanilla wafer cookies. Top with a layer of banana slices. Repeat layers until you reach the top of the dish or run out of bananas. Set aside.
  • In a large saucepan, stir together the brown sugar and flour so there are no lumps. Mix in the egg and egg yolks. 45 units nilla wafers
5 units bananas

Steps:

  • PREHEAT oven to 350°F. Mix 1/2 cup of the sugar, flour and salt in top of double boiler. Blend in 3 egg yolks and milk. Cook, uncovered, over boiling water 10 to 12 minutes or until thickened, stirring constantly. Remove from heat; stir in vanilla.
  • RESERVE 12 of the wafers for garnish. Spread small amount of custard onto bottom of 1-1/2-quart baking dish; cover with layers of 1/3 each of the remaining wafers and sliced bananas. Pour about 1/3 of the remaining custard over bananas. Continue to layer wafers, bananas and custard to make a total of 3 layers of each, ending with custard.

  • BAKE 15 to 20 minutes or until lightly browned. Cool slightly. Top with reserved 12 wafers just before serving.

I found an old Southern Living magazine from 1985 in a box in mom's attic, and found this original recipe in an ad for Nilla Wafers. It's lower in sugar and flour than more modern recipes. My family doesn't like overly sweet desserts, so this will be made at our 4th of July get together.

  • Reserve 2 tablespoons sugar. In top of double boiler combine remaining sugar, flour and salt. Beat in 1 whole egg and 3 egg yolks; reserve 3 egg whites. Stir in milk. Cook, uncovered, over boiling water, stirring constantly, 10 min., or until thickened. Remove from heat; stir in vanilla.
