Creamy, incredibly delicious and SO easy to make! Just place all ingredients in the crock pot and walk away. Even the noodles get cooked in the crock pot!

1 large yellow onion (, sliced)
1 garlic clove (, minced)
8- ounces sliced mushrooms
1- pound skinless (, boneless chicken breasts, cubed)
salt and fresh ground pepper (, to taste)
1 cup reduced sodium organic chicken broth
1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce
1 teaspoon Dijon mustard
1/4 cup dry white wine* ((see notes for substitutions))
3 tablespoons all-purpose flour
1 bay leaf
4 cups egg noodles
1/4 cup non-fat plain yogurt
chopped fresh parsley (, for garnish)

Steps:

  • Lightly grease a 6-quart crock pot with cooking spray.
  • Combine onions, garlic, mushrooms, and cubed chicken in the crock pot and season with salt and pepper; mix and set aside.
  • In a mixing bowl, whisk to combine chicken broth, Worcestershire sauce, dijon mustard, wine and flour; whisk until thoroughly incorporated.
  • Pour broth mixture over chicken in the crock pot and stir to combine.
  • Add bay leaf and cover with a lid.
  • Cook on LOW for 4 to 4-1/2 hours, or until chicken is cooked through; stir in egg noodles and continue to cook for 30 minutes, or until noodles are thoroughly cooked.
  • If cooking on HIGH, cook for 2-1/2 to 3 hours, or until chicken is cooked through; stir in egg noodles and continue to cook for 20 to 25 minutes, or until noodles are thoroughly cooked.
  • Remove bay leaf and stir in yogurt.
  • Garnish with fresh parsley.
  • Serve immediately.

2 (10.75 ounce) cans cream of mushroom soup
1 (8 ounce) package sliced fresh mushrooms
½ cup butter
1 small onion, chopped
3 pounds beef tips, cut into bite-size pieces
1 (8 ounce) package wide egg noodles

Steps:

  • Mix cream of mushroom soup, mushrooms, butter, and onion in a slow cooker; add beef tips.
  • Cook for 8 hours on Low.

1 ⅓ pounds cubed beef stew meat
2 cups fresh mushrooms, thickly sliced
1 (10.75 ounce) can condensed cream of mushroom soup
1 cup milk
2 onions, chopped
2 tablespoons Worcestershire sauce
6 ounces herb and garlic-flavored cream cheese
1 cup fusilli pasta
¼ cup sour cream

Steps:

  • Combine beef, mushrooms, cream of mushroom soup, milk, onions, and Worcestershire sauce in a slow cooker.

⅛ cup margarine
1 (.7 ounce) package dry Italian-style salad dressing mix
1 (8 ounce) package cream cheese

6 skinless chicken thighs
1/4 cup white wine
1 (10 ounce) can cream of mushroom soup
2 (4 ounce) cans sliced mushrooms, rinsed and drained
1 cup creme fraiche (or sub with sour cream)
1/4 cup flour
salt and pepper, to taste
1 lb egg noodles, cooked

Steps:

  • Place chicken, mushrooms, wine and soup in the crock pot and stir. Cover and cook on high for 3-4 hours (or 7-9 hours on low).
  • Half an hour before serving, mix the creme fraiche and flour. Remove the bones now if you did not use boneless thighs.
  • Add the creme fraiche and flour mixture to the chicken and gravy and stir until the chicken falls apart into fork-sized pieces.
  • Add salt and pepper to taste. Continue to cook for 30 minutes on low.
  • Serve chicken and sauce over hot cooked noodles.

I love the stroganoff recipies without canned condensed soups and canned mushrooms. This recipe is my adaptation of another one using ground beef. This can be prepped at night and made ready to cook the next day.

2 lbs lean beef, cubed (I used a shoulder roast)
1/4 cup flour
1 1/2 teaspoons salt
1/2 teaspoon ground black pepper
3 tablespoons vegetable oil
1 large onion, chopped
3 garlic cloves, minced
8 ounces baby portabella mushrooms, sliced
1 cup beef broth
1/4 cup dry sherry (NOT the "cooking" type)
3 tablespoons tomato paste
2 tablespoons flour
8 ounces sour cream

Steps:

  • Place cubed beef in a zipper lock bag and add 1/4 cup flour, salt and pepper. Seal bag and shake well to coat all the meat pieces.
  • Heat about 2-3 tablespoons vegetable oil in a 12" skillet over medium-high. When the oil is hot, add the coated meat. Separate pieces and brown, stirring often to brown all sides of the pieces. Remove meat to the bottom of a 3-4 quart crock pot.
  • In the same skillet, if needed, add 1 tablespoon oil before adding onions and mushrooms. Saute onions and mushrooms until soft. Add garlic and saute 1-2 minutes longer. Remove mixture to the crock pot (no need to stir it into the meat). Cover crock and refrigerate.
  • To the hot skillet add the beef broth, sherry and tomato paste. Whisk until blended, scraping up browned bits. Simmer 5 minutes until slightly thickened. Pour into a small bowl. Cover and refrigerate.
  • In the morning, remove covers from crock and sauce bowl. Pour sauce over meat and vegetables in the crock (no need to stir). Plug it in and cook on LOW heat 8-9 hours.
  • During the last hour, stir the stroganoff. Whisk together the remaining flour and sour cream. Stir into the stroganoff, blending thoroughly. Simmer, covered 30-45 minutes.
  • Serve over buttered egg noodles (my favorite!) or rice.
