1 (18.25 ounce) package yellow cake mix
1 (3.5 ounce) package instant banana pudding mix
4 eggs
1 ½ cups milk
1 ½ cups white sugar
¼ cup all-purpose flour
¾ cup butter
¾ cup shortening
¾ cup milk
1 ½ teaspoons banana extract

Steps:

  • Preheat oven to 350 degrees F (175 degrees C). Grease and flour 2 - 9x13 inch pans.
  • In a large bowl, stir together the cake mix and instant pudding. Beat in the eggs and 1 1/2 cup of milk. Divide the batter evenly between the two pans.
  • Bake in preheated oven for 15 to 17 minutes, or until a wooden toothpick inserted into the cake comes out clean. While the cake is baking, make the filling.
  • Stir together the sugar and flour. In a medium bowl, cream together the butter, shortening and sugar mixture. Beat in the milk and banana extract until smooth.
  • When the cake is cooled, invert onto a serving tray. Spread filling over the top and cover with remaining layer of cake. Keep chilled until 1/2 hour before serving.

A slight twist to an old favorite, this cheesy recipe will surely set their mouths to watering. For a creamier casserole, use a potato masher and mash potatoes thoroughly.

2 large baking potatoes
½ pound lean bacon
¾ cup shredded mild Cheddar cheese
½ cup sour cream
¼ cup milk
2 tablespoons unsalted butter, melted
1 teaspoon dried chives
½ teaspoon salt
½ teaspoon ground black pepper
½ teaspoon garlic powder
¾ cup shredded mild Cheddar cheese

Steps:

  • Preheat oven to 400 degrees F (200 degrees C). Grease a 9x13-inch casserole dish.
  • Poke a few holes into each potato using a toothpick.
  • Bake potatoes in the preheated oven until fully cooked, about 1 hour. Cool for about 15 minutes.
  • Place the bacon in a large skillet and cook over medium-high heat, turning occasionally, until evenly browned, about 10 minutes. Drain the bacon slices on paper towels and crumble.
  • Cut a thin slice from one side of each potato; carefully scoop out the flesh and transfer to a bowl. Discard skins. Mix 3/4 cup Cheddar cheese, sour cream, milk, butter, chives, salt, black pepper, and garlic powder with potatoes. Plantains are a member of the banana family, but catch them a little before they are ripe and they become a kid pleasing savory snack similar to French Fries. My 8 year old loved these, so we were pleasantly surprised when she gobbled them up. My daughter likes these sans sauce, but my Husband and I love them with Recipe #356610 This recipe is from Family Fun Magazine. Don't let all the steps scare you, they are very easy to make!

2 large green plantains
4 cups cold water
1 teaspoon salt, plus more for sprinkling
1 garlic clove, crushed
1 cup peanut oil

Steps:

  • Cut off the ends of the plantain, then use a small knife to cut a slit along their natural ridges.
  • Pry the skin loose, using a knife if necessary, and then pull it off.
  • Cut the plantains crosswise into 1" rounds.
  • Place them in a bowl with the water, salt, and garlic for 30 minutes.
  • In a medium sized pot, or frying pan heat the oil to 325 degrees.
  • Drain the plantain slices and pat with a paper towels.
  • Fry a few rounds at a time, turning them occasionally until golden, not brown, and tender when pierced with a knife, about 5 minutes.
  • Drain the cooked slices on paper towels and allow them to cool for at least 1 minute.
  • Place the fried slices one by one between two pieces of waxed paper on a cutting board.
  • Gently press each slice with a mllet or rolling pin into rounds approximately 1/3" thick and 2" in diameter.
  • When all the slices are pressed, heat oil to 375 degrees, then refry the slices until golden brown and crispy on the outside, tender on the insdie, about 3 minute Drain the rounds on paper towel and sprinkle with salt, enjoy!.

Number Of Ingredients 6

100 g butter
100 g golden caster sugar (can use light brown sugar)
6 tablespoons golden syrup (can use half maple syrup)
230 g oats (any kind except instant powered oats)
2 very ripe chopped bananas (showing black spots but still with white flesh)
1 pinch salt

Steps:

  • Preheat the oven to 160C/325F.
  • Melt the butter over a medium heat in a large pan and add the sugar, syrup and salt.
  • Once completely melted and combined and almost foaming add the chopped bananas and cook for 2 minutes.
  • Add the oats, turn off the heat and mix well.
  • Put the mixture into an ovenproof dish lined with clingfilm (this is a chefs trick, don't worry it won't melt).
  • Bake for 25 minutes, cut into squares whilst still in the dish and allow to cool until 'set'
  • Now set the oven to 140C/275F.
  • Carefully turn the flapjacks out of the dish and slice properly.
  • Place them individually, directly onto the oven shelf and bake for around 30 minutes to allow them to caramelize and dry out a little. Bake longer for even crunchier and chewier results.
  • One of life's dreams come true!

6 11- to 12-ounce russet potatoes
1/2 cup whole milk
2 teaspoons minced fresh rosemary
6 tablespoons (3/4 stick) butter, room temperature, divided
8 ounces Roquefort cheese, crumbled
Coarse kosher salt
4 ounces Gruyère cheese, grated

Steps:

  • Preheat oven to 350°F. Bake potatoes 30 minutes. Using fork, pierce potatoes in several places. Bake until tender, about 1 hour longer. Maintain oven temperature.
  • Meanwhile, microwave milk and rosemary in microwave-safe cup on high heat 45 seconds; let steep 30 minutes.
  • Slicing lengthwise, cut top quarter off each potato. Scoop potato into large bowl, leaving about 1/4 inch of potato in skin. Scrapepotato out of tops; discard tops. Coarsely mash potato. Add 4 tablespoons butter; mash. Mash in milk mixture, then Roquefort cheese (mixture will be slightly stiff). Season with coarse salt and pepper.
  • Divide mashed potatoes among potato skins; transfer to rimmed baking sheet. Sprinkle Gruyère cheese over potatoes, pressing slightly to adhere. Dot with butter. DO AHEAD: Can be made 4 hours ahead. Let stand at room temperature.
  • Bake potatoes until hot and tops begin to brown, about 30 minutes.
