COLD BREW COFFEE

Cold Brew Coffee image

Let's make cold brew coffee! It's easy to make, and it's so nice to have coffee ready to go. This recipe is written for a 1-quart wide-mouth mason jar; you can scale it up or down using 1 ounce* (28 grams) coffee per 1 cup water. The quantities provided will produce about 2 1/2 cups concentrate, which is enough for 5 cups of cold brew.

Provided by Cookie and Kate

Categories     Drink

Time 20m

Number Of Ingredients 2

3 ounces (85 grams) coarsely-ground coffee (that's about 3/4 cup whole coffee beans turned into about 1 1/2 cups* coarsely-ground coffee)
3 cups water (filtered water if you have it)

Steps:

  • In a 1-quart wide-mouth mason jar, combine the coffee and water. Stir to combine. I like to let my mixture rest for about 5 minutes and stir it again; the coffee grounds seem to gain more water exposure this way.
  • Put a lid on your container and refrigerate it for 12 to 18 hours.
  • When you're ready to strain your cold brew, place a thin paper coffee filter or a small, thin cotton napkin, cloth or handkerchief over a small fine-mesh sieve. Pour the concentrate through the prepared sieve into a liquid measuring cup or pitcher. Let it rest for a few minutes to let the last of the cold brew trickle down.
  • To serve, fill a glass with ice and fill it halfway with water. Then fill the rest of the glass with cold brew concentrate, and stir to combine. Cold brew concentrate will keep well in the refrigerator for up to 2 weeks, although I find that it has the best flavor within the first week.

COLD BREW COFFEE CONCENTRATE

Cold Brew Coffee Concentrate image

Cold Brew Coffee Concentrate is easy to make. Learn how to make cold brew coffee concentrate with this detailed guide. Get the recipe, the perfect grind size and the correct water ratio, so you can make cold brew coffee concentrate at home.

Provided by The Worktop

Categories     Breakfast     Brunch     Drinks

Time 5m

Number Of Ingredients 2

10 ounces coarsely ground coffee (((see post for how to tell if your coffee is the right grind size))
40 ounces filtered water ((use the best quality water you can get))

Steps:

  • Set up your coffee brewer. If you have the OXO cold brew maker, set the filter in the base of the brewing container, then screw on the filter cap. Turn the container around and add in your ground coffee.
  • Slowly pour water over the coffee grounds in a circular motion, distributing the water as evenly as possible. With the OXO cold brew maker, there is a "rainmaker" cap that helps you with this process.
  • Once the coffee has finished blooming, give it a quick and gentle stir. Blooming is when the coffee expands and bubbles, releasing carbon dioxide. It can take up to 10 minutes if you use the full recipe.
  • Set the coffee aside and let it brew for 16-24 hours. We always aim for 18 hours and leave it to brew in the refrigerator.
  • Once brewing is finished, drain the water and filter out the coffee. (This is the part that is tricky if you don't have a cold brew coffee maker.)With the OXO cold brew coffee maker, you simply set it on the stand and flip the switch. It should take approximately 15-20 minutes with the correct grind size.If you use a French press, use the plunger and carefully pour out the water. Try your best not to agitate the coffee grounds. You may also want to filter it through a paper filter. To do so, pour the coffee out of the French press. Then, set up a pour over coffee maker and pour the cold brew concentrate through the paper. Don't do it in one step because if you have to keep tipping and uprighting the French press as the concentrate filters through the paper filter, you will agitate the coffee grounds too much.
  • Store the concentrate in the refrigerator.
  • To serve the coffee, dilute 2 ounces (60 milliliters) (1/4 cup) of coffee concentrate to 4-6 ounces (120-180 milliliters) (1/2 - 3/4 cup) water or milk. You can use serve it either hot or cold. Enjoy!

ESPRESSO COLD BREW

The best cold brew coffee that you can drink on a hot summer day!

Provided by Jeffrey

Categories     Recipes

Time 12h10m

Number Of Ingredients 3

80 grams of coffee
4 cups (0.95 l) of water
Touch of milk or milk alternative (optional)

Steps:

  • Grind the coffee beans to a fine/ medium grind size. The grind size you're looking for is a bit finer than the AeroPress coffee grind size.
  • Add your ground coffee beans into a container or large mug, whichever you have on hand. You can also use a French press, which I'll be using as well.
  • Now, pour the water on top of your ground coffee beans.
  • Stir through the coffee mixture until all coffee beans are equally wetted. This will ensure proper extraction of the coffee.
  • Leave this mixture to sit on your kitchen table or fridge for the next 12 hours.
  • After the coffee has had the time necessary, you'll have to filter it.
  • Press down on the French press's plunger when using one, or pour onto a filter cup when using a container or mug.
  • I suggest using a paper filter to filter out every last piece of coffee bean that likes to get into the cold brew coffee.
  • After filtering the cold brew extract, it's time to serve the coffee. Grab one or more glasses and fill them with ice.
  • This recipe contains four servings, dividing it into equal parts and pouring the coffee into the glasses.
  • You can now enjoy your cold brew espresso. If you want to dilute your coffee using water, milk, or milk alternatives, you can add them now.
  • Stir and enjoy your coffee!

2021-06-29 Cold brew coffee steeps for anywhere between 12 and 48 hours, and as we all know time equals money. Also, cold brew coffee requires a greater volume of ground coffee than drip, French press or pour-over coffee. Between the extra time and extra beans, cold brew just costs more to make, so that’s why you’ll pay more.
