This Italian lemonade is a fun twist on the summer favorite. The basil simple syrup adds an herby freshness that takes this lemonade to the next level.

- In a saucepan combine the basil, sugar, and water and simmer until the sugar is dissolved, 5 minutes. Cool, strain the liquid, and discard the basil. Store the simple syrup in the refrigerator.
- 2 Mix the lemon juice, 2 cups basil simple syrup, and 2 cups water together in a pitcher. Store in the refrigerator until ready to serve. Pour into ice-filled glasses and garnish with a lemon twist.

ITALIAN LEMON ICE
As kids my grandmother used to always make this Italian lemon ice on hot summer days. We loved them and now my kids love them too. The adult version is tasty too!

- Whisk water, sugar, and lemon zest together in a medium saucepan, then bring to a boil over high heat. Continue to whisk and boil for 5 minutes. Let mixture cool for 10 minutes. Whisk in lemon juice.
- Transfer mixture to an 8x8-inch pan and freeze for 1 1/2 hours.
- Remove pan from the freezer and stir with a fork to break up the ice. Freeze again for 3 hours. Scrape and mix ice into shavings with a fork.
- Serve in chilled glasses garnished with mint and lemon wedges. Top with raspberry-flavored liqueur as a little something extra for adults.

- In a large bowl, beat the sugar, oil and butter on medium speed for 4 minutes. Add eggs, one at a time, beating well after each addition. Beat in the lemon zest and extracts. Combine the flour, baking powder, baking soda and salt; add to the creamed mixture alternately with sour cream, beating well after each addition., Transfer to three greased and floured 8-in. round baking pans. Bake at 350° for 14-18 minutes or until a toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean. Cool for 10 minutes before removing from pans to wire racks to cool completely., In a large bowl, beat cream and cheese until soft peaks form. Stir in the marshmallow creme, lemon curd, limoncello and lemon zest until combined., In a small saucepan, combine sugar and lemon juice. Bring to a boil over medium heat; cook and stir until sugar is dissolved. Remove from the heat., Place one cake layer on a serving plate. Brush with 2 tablespoons glaze and spread with half of the filling. Repeat layers. Top with remaining cake layer; brush with remaining glaze. Garnish with lemon zest and mint leaves. Store in the refrigerator.

- Remove seeds from lemon juice, but leave pulp. In pitcher, stir together chilled syrup, lemon juice and remaining 7 cups water.

- Bring water, sugar and the lemon zest to a boil in s medium saucepan.
- Boil over high heat for 5 minutes.
- Let cool for 5 minutes.
- Then stir lemon juice into the sugar water. Pour into a freezer tray and freeze 1/2 hours, or until icy.
- Stir and break up icy crystals with a fork.
- Freeze again until firm, about 2-1/2 hours longer.
- Serve in chilled wine glasses.
ITALIAN LEMONADE
This comes from Giada De Laurentis, who is probably one of my favorite celebrity chefs. This is just perfect for our hot Texas summers. Divide the pitcher into 2, 1 for the kiddos and 1 for the adults. Add a little Vodka to the adult one for a cool refreshing adult beverage.

- Combine the sugar with 3 cups of water in a small saucepan. Bring to a simmer, stirring to dissolve the sugar. Remove from the heat and add the lemon juice. Pour the mixture into 3 ice cube trays and set aside to cool to room temperature, about 20 minutes. Place the trays in the freezer to harden, 4 to 8 hours depending on your freezer.
- When ready to serve, add the ice cubes and the lemon peel to a food processor and pulse until the ice is fluffy and broken down. Serve with a straw and a spoon, and be prepared to be whisked away to the summer streets of Chicago.
