Categories     Dessert

Time 40m

Number Of Ingredients 20

8 oz unsalted butter (room temp)
14 oz sugar
6 large egg whites (fresh not boxed at room temp)
14 oz AP flour
2 1/2 tsp baking powder
1/2 tsp salt
1 tsp almond extract (use clear for a whiter cake)
1 tsp vanilla extract
10 oz milk (room temp)
2 oz vegetable oil
8 oz pasteurized egg whites (room temperature)
32 oz powdered sugar
32 oz unsalted butter (room temperature)
1/2 tsp salt
1 Tbsp vanilla extract
6 oz white chocolate
1 oz warm water
1 tsp warm brown food coloring
2 tsp Truly Mad Plastics super gold
1 Tbsp Everclear (lemon extract or rose water can be used )

Steps:

  • Preheat your oven to 335ºF and prepare two 8"x2" cake pans with cake goop or another preferred pan release.
  • Combine milk, oil and extracts and set aside
  • Combine your flour, baking powder and salt and set aside
  • Place butter in a stand mixer with a paddle attachment and cream until smooth. Sprinkle in your sugar and then let whip on high until light and white (about 5 minutes)
  • Add the egg whites one at a time (roughly) to the butter mixture while mixing on low and let fully combine after each addition before adding the next. If your egg whites aren't at room temperature you can microwave them for a few seconds. Be careful not to cook them! Cold egg whites will curdle the batter.
  • Add in 1/3 of your dry ingredients to the egg/butter mixture and mix on low until just combined. Then add in 1/2 of your liquids, then dry, then liquids and the rest of your dry. Let mix until just combined.
  • Add batter into prepared cake pans and bake at 335º F for 25-35 minutes or until a toothpick comes out clean when poked in the center.
  • Let cool ten minutes then turn out cakes onto a cooling rack. Wrap warm and place into the freezer to flash chill. This locks in the moisture. Once cool but not frozen you can then trim off the brown edges of your cakes and frost as desired. Chill cake.
  • Combine egg whites and powdered sugar in a mixing bowl with the whisk attachment. Whisk to combine on low then whisk on high, adding in your butter in small chunks, vanilla and salt. Turn mixer up to high and whip until light, fluffy and white.
  • Melt chocolate and water in the microwave and whisk until smooth. Add in a couple drops of food coloring. Let cool to about 90 degrees before attempting to drip over the chilled cake. Once chocolate is set, you can combine the everclear and gold dust to make a paint and paint the drip. *note: this is a non-toxic gold dust

4 eggs
2 cups white sugar
2 cups sour cream
1 (14 ounce) can sweetened condensed milk
2 tablespoons vinegar

  • Easy One-Bowl Cherry Upside-Down Cake. Because it calls for frozen fruit, just a single bowl for mixing, and minimal kitchen equipment, this cake is a breeze for bakers of all levels.
  • Mochi Cake, Any Way You Want It. Sweet rice flour makes this super-adaptable cake gooey-bouncy on the inside and crispy-chewy on the outside. Even better, this particular recipe can go in any flavor direction you want: Add cocoa, matcha, or malt powder; throw in some cinnamon, cardamom, or turmeric.
  • Olive Oil Apple Cake with Spiced Sugar. Choose your fruits wisely with this one: Gala and Golden Delicious apples will simply melt into the cake, whereas firmer apples, like Granny Smiths, give it a coarser texture.
  • Rhubarb Custard Cake. This easy cake batter requires no mixer and comes together in minutes. The final result is a rich, custardy cake that plays perfectly off the tart rhubarb topping.
  • Orange Chocolate Loaf Cake From Florida. Baking legend Maida Heatter picked this recipe up on a Florida orange grove, where it was served with—what else?—
  • Raspberry-Ricotta Cake. This easy cake is the perfect landing place for fresh raspberries—or blackberries!— if they're in season, though frozen berries work just as well if they're not.
  • Lemon-Pistachio Loaf. Don’t even think about lifting this cake out of the pan before it’s completely—and we mean completely—cool. Because it’s vegan, with no eggs for structure, its delicate crumb needs time to set.
  • Spiced Chai Bundt Cake. The essence of warm, fragrant flavor, this easy cake recipe from Donna Hay calls for both loose chai leaves and pumpkin pie spice.
  • Easiest Chocolate Cake. This is the easiest chocolate cake in the world—perhaps in the universe! You don't even need eggs, butter, or milk, and you probably have all the ingredients on hand.

  • The Basics of Baking a Cake. When kids get interested in helping their parents in the kitchen, one of the first things they want to do is to help bake a cake.
  • Grease and Preheat. Before you begin baking, grease and flour the pans you are using. These could be 8-inch round pans, 9-inch rounds, a 13" x 9" rectangular sheet, or even a Bundt pan.
  • Prepare Your Ingredients. It's important to have all of the ingredients prepared before making the batter. Many cake recipes call for melted chocolate, so you should do that before beginning to mix up the batter.
  • Whisk the Dry Mix. It's important to correctly measure and then mix the dry ingredients completely so the cake will have an even and proper rise. Use a wire whisk to combine the flour with the leavening agents for a best results.
  • Cream Your Butter and Sugar. Bring the butter to room temperature before you begin baking. When it has reached the proper temperature, beat it until it's creamy.
  • Add the Eggs. Add the eggs to the butter and sugar mixture, one at a time, and mix well until blended. Continue to 7 of 10 below.
  • It's Time to Combine. For a chocolate cake, this is generally when the chocolate, flour, and milk are added to the butter and sugar mixture. First, start with the melted chocolate.
  • Pour Your Batter in Your Pan. If making a layer cake, carefully divide the batter between two round cake pans. If you're using a rectangular or Bundt pan, scoop out all of your batter into your prepared pan of choice.
  • Bake and Cool Your Cakes. Bake the cakes according to the time and temperature in your recipe directions. Remove from the oven and cool on a rack for 10 minutes or as directed in your recipe.
  • The Finished Product. Once the cakes are completely cool, it's time to frost them. Choose from basic buttercream icing, cream cheese frosting, ganache, or whipped cream.

Add the egg and vanilla extract and beat on high speed until combined. Scrape down the bottom and sides of the bowl as needed.

HOW TO MAKE A CAKE FROM SCRATCH AS DELICIOUS AS YOUR ...

From bhg.com
  • Prepare Baking Pans. Nobody wants their cake to stick to the pan, so it's important to prep your pans before pouring in the batter. With the exception of angel food and chiffon cakes, most recipes call for greasing and flouring the pan or lining the pan with waxed or parchment paper.
  • Allow Ingredients to Reach Room Temperature. Many recipes require cake ingredients such as eggs and butter to stand at room temperature. This allows the butter to blend easily with other ingredients and the eggs will yield a higher cake volume.
  • Preheat the Oven. When a cake bakes too quickly it can develop tunnels and cracks, too slowly and it can be coarse. Let your oven preheat for at least 10 minutes, and use an oven thermometer ($7, Target) to make sure it reaches the proper temperature.
  • Stir Together Dry Ingredients. Dry ingredients usually include flour, baking powder and/or baking soda, and salt. Rather than adding each dry ingredient individually to the batter, whisk ($6, Walmart) them together in a bowl beforehand.
  • Combine the Butter and Sugar. Wondering how to make a cake with a light, airy crumb? Creaming butter and sugar is the most important step. Here's how
  • Add Eggs One at a Time. Add eggs (or egg whites) one at a time, beating well after each. Their protein creates structure around air bubbles to maintain texture.
  • Alternate Adding Dry and Wet Ingredients. Alternate between adding some of the flour mixture and some of the milk (or other liquid specified in the recipe) to the butter-egg-sugar mixture, beating on low speed after each addition until combined.
  • Pour Batter into Pans and Bake. Divide the batter evenly between the baking pans. Use an offset spatula ($9, Bed Bath & Beyond) to spread the batter in an even layer.
  • Check Cake for Doneness. Overbaked cake equals dry cake and no one wants that. Start checking the cake for doneness after the recipe's stated minimum baking time, avoiding opening the oven door until it's time to prevent letting the heat escape.
  • Cool the Cake. Let the cakes cool in the pans on a wire rack ($15, Walmart) for 10 minutes maximum. To remove from the pans, run a knife around the edges of the cake to loosen it from the sides.
