This tastes very close to the taco seasoning favored by a very popular fast-food taco restaurant. You can make this at home, and let your family prepare tacos the way they like.

1 ½ tablespoons corn flour
4 ½ teaspoons chili powder
½ teaspoon onion powder
½ teaspoon garlic powder
½ teaspoon seasoned salt
½ teaspoon paprika
¼ teaspoon cumin
½ teaspoon garlic salt
¼ teaspoon sugar
1 teaspoon dried minced onion
½ teaspoon beef bouillon granules
¼ teaspoon ground red pepper
1 ⅓ pounds lean ground chuck
1 cup water

Steps:

  • In a medium bowl, combine the corn flour, chili powder, onion powder, garlic powder, and seasoned salt. Stir in the paprika, cumin, garlic salt, and sugar. Blend in the onion, bouillon, and ground red pepper, stirring until all spices are well blended.
  • Crumble the ground chuck into a large skillet over medium heat. Cook, stirring, until browned. Remove from heat, rinse meat with hot water, and drain water and grease from beef.
  • Return meat to skillet, and pour in seasoning. Stir in water. Reduce heat to medium-low, and simmer until most of the liquid has cooked away, about 20 minutes.

This homemade taco seasoning is designed to keep you away from the dreaded seasoning pack! It has great flavor and makes it easy to control the salt and heat levels.

1/4 cup pure chili powder
4 teaspoons cumin
2 teaspoons garlic powder
2 teaspoons onion powder
2 teaspoons paprika
1/2 teaspoon cayenne
2 teaspoons Mexican oregano
4 teaspoons salt
1 teaspoon black pepper

Steps:

  • Add all ingredients to a mixing bowl and combine well.
  • Use immediately and store leftovers in an airtight container.
  • For one pound of ground beef, you'll need 3 tablespoons of the seasoning mix. After browning the ground beef, drain the fat. Add 3 tablespoons seasoning along with a heaping half cup of water. Mix well and simmer over low heat. Taste for salt level, adding another pinch if necessary.

This taco seasoning is just perfect! I make three or four batches at a time and put them in ziploc bags for convenience. Once you try this you'll never buy a packet of taco seasoning at the grocery store again! MSG gives me a headache, so years ago I went on a quest for a great taco seasoning recipe. This is what I found (I just don't remember where). This will season a pound of ground whatever (or a bag of Morningstar Farms Veggie Crumbles- nobody will ever know it's meat-free). Hope you like it!

1 tablespoon flour
1 teaspoon chili powder
1 1/4 teaspoons paprika
3/4 teaspoon salt
3/4 teaspoon dried onion flakes
1/2 teaspoon cumin
1/4 teaspoon cayenne
1/4 teaspoon garlic powder
1/4 teaspoon sugar
1/8 teaspoon ground oregano

Steps:

  • Mix ingredients.
  • Pour over browned, ground meat (or shredded, cooked meat) in a pan over medium heat.
  • I'm sorry I don't have an amount of water to recommend adding to the seasoning. I usually just wing it and then simmer it down if I get too carried away with the water. I think about a half cup?.
  • Simmer until it looks good!
  • Dig it.

I loathe store bought taco seasoning. The flavor of it is so overpowering that you can hardly taste anything else on your taco! I found this recipe and adapted it a bit to suit my own tastes. I'm posting it on here mostly to be able to find it whenever I want to make it again. **NOTE: sometimes i substitute 1 tsp of store-bought taco seasoning in place of 1 tsp chili powder. you can't pick the flavor of the store-bought stuff out and it helps bring the flavors together a bit**

1 3/4 tablespoons cornflour or 1 3/4 tablespoons white flour
3 1/2 teaspoons chili powder
1 teaspoon garlic powder
3/4 teaspoon seasoning salt
3/4 teaspoon paprika
1/2 teaspoon onion powder
1/2 teaspoon cumin
1/4 teaspoon sugar
1/4 teaspoon crushed red pepper flakes
2 tablespoons tomato paste
2 lbs ground beef
1/4 teaspoon beef bouillon granules (i do 1/4 teaspoon. not quite enough to be 1/2 tsp)
3/4 cup water

Steps:

  • In small bowl, mix all dry ingredients. set aside.
  • brown meat in a skillet. when done, drain off fat.
  • return skillet to burner. sprinkle on seasoning mix and add tomato paste and bouillon. add water and stir well to coat meat.
  • let simmer for about 15 minutes, or until the majority of the water cooks off.
