KITTENCAL'S MILK BOILED CORN ON THE COB

Kittencal's Milk Boiled Corn on the Cob image

A method I have been using for over 30 years, you will never boil corn in just water again once you try this, this method produces a very tender and sweet corn on the cob, I promise! --- do not add in any salt to the water as it will make the corn tough

Provided by Kittencalrecipezazz

Categories     Corn

Time 15m

Yield 6-8 serving(s)

Number Of Ingredients 6

6 -8 ears corn, husks and silk removed
water
1 cup milk
1/4 cup whipping cream, unwhipped (or use 1-1/4 cups milk)
1/3 cup sugar (can use more sugar)
1/4 cup butter (optional, add to the water)

Steps:

  • Fill a large stock pot half full with water (use a large enough pot to hold all the corn).
  • Add in the cream, milk, sugar and butter.
  • Bring to a boil, then add in the corn cobs.
  • Reduce heat to a simmer and allow corn to cook for 7-8 minutes or until just tender, depending on size of corn try not to over cook the corn as it will become tough.
  • Using long tongs remove and place on a plate or in a bowl, then cover with foil until ready to serve.
  • Serve with butter and salt to taste.
  • Delicious!

MILK BUTTER BOILED CORN ON THE COB

Milk Butter Boiled Corn on the Cob image

I love serving up my tasty milk butter boiled corn on the cob for any family meal but especially with something hot of the grill! It's just as easy as boiling or steaming corn on the cob, but this version is so superbly sweet and soft that you will make it your new 'go-to' method of cooking your corn!

Provided by Angela

Categories     Dinner Recipes     Side Dish

Time 20m

Number Of Ingredients 7

4 ears corn ((husks and silk removed))
water ((enough to cover the ears of corn))
1 cup heavy cream
1/2 cup milk
6 Tbsp butter ((divided, 2 portions - 1/4 c and 2 Tbsp))
1/4 cup sugar
1/2 tsp paprika ((optional))

Steps:

  • In a large stock pot, fill with enough water to just cover the ears of corn. Add the heavy cream, milk, 1/4 cup portion of the butter, and sugar then bring to a boil over medium high heat.
  • Reduce heat to low and simmer for 8-10 minutes, or until corn is tender. *The corn be added once a boil has been reached, if desired. Be careful of splattering water if choosing this method!
  • (Optional) Melt the remaining two tablespoons of butter and combine with the paprika. Set aside to brush onto the cooked corn on the cob when serving.
  • Remove from the stock pot and liquid. (Optional) Brush the melted butter and paprika onto the cooked corn on the cob with a basting brush.
  • Serve immediately, or cover with aluminum foil until ready to serve.

  • If you are working with fresh corn you are going to want to first shuck the corn. To do this you simply pull the green husks down to the both of the corn. It can take a moment, and this is a messy process, so it's best to do this with two hands over a garbage can.
  • You can either leave the cobs whole or you can break them in half, they'll take the same amount of cooking time either way.
