Easy Puffed Wheat Cake image

This recipe has been around longer than I have. It is one of those recipes that I never mess up. I make this for school lunches and press into muffin tins for perfect lunch-size pieces. It never lasts long in our house.

8 cups puffed wheat cereal
⅓ cup butter
1 cup packed brown sugar
½ cup corn syrup
2 tablespoons cocoa powder
1 teaspoon vanilla extract

Steps:

  • Pour cereal into a large bowl.
  • Melt butter in a saucepan over medium-low heat. Stir brown sugar, corn syrup, cocoa powder, and vanilla extract into melted butter; cook until mixture begins to bubble, 5 to 10 minutes. Remove saucepan from heat, pour butter mixture over cereal, and stir to until cereal is coated. Spoon and press cereal mixture into muffin cups or a 9x13-inch casserole dish.

The Best Puffed Wheat Cake image

Anyone can make good puffed wheat cake with this recipe. If followed, you will never have hard puffed wheat cake again. This one is very soft and gooey and chewy.

1/2 cup margarine
1 cup corn syrup
1 cup brown sugar
1/4 cup white sugar
5 tablespoons cocoa
1 teaspoon vanilla
9 cups puffed wheat cereal

Steps:

  • Combine all ingredients except vanilla and puffed wheat in a sauce pan.
  • Bring to just a boil over medium heat. Just boil it until "3 bubbles" pop. Do not stir very much, just enough so it won't burn.
  • Take pot off of the heat and add the vanilla and mix it inches.
  • Pour sauce over puffed wheat and mix until all is coated with the sauce.
  • Pour into a 9x13 pan and let cool.
  • Enjoy.

This recipe was developed by one of my grandmother's friends. It makes a lovely puffed wheat cake with lots of flavor. No baking required for this recipe.

8 cups puffed wheat cereal
1 cup brown sugar, not packed
½ cup butter
½ cup corn syrup
3 tablespoons Dutch-process cocoa (such as Fry's®)
2 teaspoons vanilla extract

Steps:

  • Line a 9x13-inch baking pan with parchment paper.
  • Place puffed wheat cereal in a large bowl.
  • Combine brown sugar, butter, corn syrup, and cocoa in a saucepan. Bring to a boil; cook, stirring constantly, until sugar is dissolved, about 2 minutes. Remove from heat. Stir in vanilla extract.
  • Pour sugar mixture over puffed wheat cereal in the bowl; stir until cereal is evenly coated. Spread evenly into the lined pan. Cool until set, about 30 minutes. Cut into squares.

1/2 cup corn syrup
1 cup brown sugar
4 tablespoons cocoa
1 teaspoon vanilla
10 large marshmallows
8 1/2 cups puffed wheat cereal

Steps:

  • Melt butter in saucepan. Add syrup, sugar, cocoa, marshmallows and vanilla. When mixture begins to bubble, remove from heat; add puffed wheat and mix well. Put in a buttered 9 x 12-inch pan. Press down with spoon. Cut in squares.
