1 cup all-purpose flour
3/4 cup granulated sugar
3 tablespoons cocoa powder
2 teaspoons baking powder
1/4 teaspoon salt
1/2 cup milk
1/3 cup butter (melted)
2 teaspoons vanilla extract
½ cup granulated sugar
½ cup brown sugar (firmly packed)
¼ cup cocoa powder
1 ½ cups hot water
Vanilla ice cream (or whipped cream)
Maraschino cherries (optional)

Steps:

  • Coat a slow cooker with nonstick spray. In a large bowl, whisk together the flour, sugar, cocoa powder, baking powder, and salt. In a second bowl, whisk together the milk, melted butter, and vanilla.
  • Make a well in the middle of the dry ingredients. Pour the wet ingredient in to the well and whisk until smooth. Pour into the bottom of a slow cooker.
  • Whisk together the sugar, brown sugar, cocoa powder until evenly combined. Sprinkle evenly over the batter in the slow cooker.
  • Pour the hot water over the top of the batter and topping. Do not stir. Cover and cook on HIGH for 3 to 4 hours or LOW for 5 hours, or until a toothpick inserted in to the middle of the cake comes out clean with a few crumbs attached (see recipe notes).
  • Serve with ice cream or whipped cream, spooning the chocolate sauce from the bottom of the slow cooker over the top. Garnish with maraschino cherries if desired.

Steps:

  • Spray crock of a large slow cooker with cooking spray.

  • Preheat oven to 350 degrees.
  • Grease and flour (I used Baker's Joy) 2 9x5 inch loaf pans.
  • Combine cake mix, pudding mix, sour cream, vegetable oil, eggs, water, and 1 cup chocolate chips in a large bowl and beat on medium speed with an electric mixer for 1-2 minutes.
  • Pour half of the batter into each of the prepared pans.

175g softened butter, plus extra for greasing
175g golden caster sugar
3 eggs
140g self-raising flour
85g ground almonds
½ tsp baking powder
100ml milk
4 tbsp cocoa powder
50g plain chocolate chip or chunks
few extra chunks white, plain and milk chocolate, for decorating

Steps:

  • Heat oven to 160C/140C fan/gas 3. Grease and line a 2lb/900g loaf tin with a long strip of baking parchment. To make the loaf cake batter, beat the butter and sugar with an electric whisk until light and fluffy. Beat in the eggs, flour, almonds, baking powder, milk and cocoa until smooth. Stir in the chocolate chips, then scrape into the tin. Bake for 45-50 mins until golden, risen and a skewer poked in the centre comes out clean.
