2 tablespoons butter
1-1/2 cups packed brown sugar
1-1/2 cups water
DUMPLINGS:
1-1/4 cups all-purpose flour
1/2 cup sugar
2 teaspoons baking powder
1/2 teaspoon salt
1/2 cup whole milk
2 tablespoons butter, softened
2 teaspoons vanilla extract
1/2 cup coarsely chopped peeled apple, optional
Vanilla ice cream, optional

Steps:

  • In a large skillet, heat the butter, brown sugar and water to boiling. Reduce heat to simmer. , Meanwhile, combine the dumpling ingredients; add apple if desired. Drop by tablespoonfuls into the simmering sauce. Cover tightly and simmer for 20 minutes. Do not lift lid. If desired, serve warm with vanilla ice cream.

1 1/4 cups self-raising flour
1 pinch salt
30 g butter
1/3 cup sugar
1 teaspoon vanilla
1/3 cup milk
30 g butter
1 1/2 cups brown sugar (firmly packed)
1 pinch salt
1 1/2 cups water

Steps:

  • Sift flour and salt into basin, rub in butter, add sugar.
  • Add combined milk and vanilla, mix well.
  • Combine all sauce ingredients in large saucepan, stir constantly until boiling, reduce heat.
  • Drop tablespoons of dumpling dough into simmering sauce.
  • Cover, simmer 20 minutes.
  • Serve with whipped cream.

1 cup water
3/4 cup packed brown sugar, divided
1 tablespoon butter
1 teaspoon vanilla extract
1/2 cup all-purpose flour
1/2 teaspoon baking powder
Pinch each nutmeg and salt
1/4 cup evaporated milk
1/2 cup raisins
1/4 cup chopped walnuts
Ice cream

Steps:

  • In a small saucepan over medium heat, bring water and 1/2 cup brown sugar to a boil. Remove from the heat; stir in butter and vanilla until butter is melted. Pour into a greased 1-qt. baking dish; set aside., In a large bowl, combine the flour, baking powder, nutmeg, salt and milk just until blended. Stir in the remaining brown sugar. Fold in raisins and walnuts. Drop by spoonfuls over sauce. , Bake, uncovered, at 350° for 30 minutes or until bubbly and golden brown. Spoon into dishes. Serve with ice cream.

2 cups water
1 3/4 cups brown sugar packed
2 tablespoons butter or margarine
1 teaspoon vanilla extract
1 2/3 cups flour
1/4 cup sugar
3 teaspoons baking powder
1/2 teaspoon salt
1/4 cup vegetable shortening solid
3/4 cup milk
Vanilla ice cream or whipped cream

Steps:

  • Preheat oven to 350°. Butter a 12 x 8 x 2-inch baking dish. In a small saucepan, mix water and brown sugar. Over medium-high heat, bring to a boil. Remove from heat. Add butter or margarine and vanilla and stir until butter or margarine is melted. Pour into baking dish set aside.Into a medium bowl, sift flour, sugar, baking powder and salt. With a pastry blender or two knives, cut in shortening until mixture resembles fine crumbs. Stir in milk and mix just until blended. Drop by teaspoonfuls onto caramel sauce, making 16 dumplings. Cover with foil and bake for 25 minutes. Uncover and bake 5 minutes longer or until dumplings are golden on the edges.For each serving, place 2 warm dumplings on a serving plate, sauce side up. Spoon additional sauce over. Serve with ice cream or whipped cream.

2 tablespoons nonfat milk
1/2 teaspoon ground cinnamon
4 small soft caramel candies, unwrapped
2 medium rome apples
2 sheets phyllo dough, fresh or frozen thawed
butter-flavored cooking spray

Steps:

  • Preheat oven to 400.
  • Combine first 3 ingredients in a small saucepan.
  • Place over low heat, and cook until smooth, stirring constantly.
  • Remove from heat; set aside.
  • Core apples, cutting to, but not through, the bottom of each apple.
  • Spoon caramel mixture evenly into centers of apples.
  • Place apples in a small baking dish; cover and bake at 400 for 35 minutes or just until apples are tender.
  • Remove apples from dish, and let cool.
  • Place 1 sheet of phyllo on a damp towel (keeping remaining phyllo covered).
  • Coat phyllo sheet with cooking spray.
  • Fold phyllo in half crosswise.
  • Place 1 apple on phyllo rectangle.
  • Coat edges of phyllo with Pam; bring corners to center, pinching phyllo to seal.
  • Coat dumpling with cooking spray Repeat with remaining apple and phyllo sheets.
  • Place dumplings on a baking sheet coated with cooking spray.

  • Heat oven to 400°F.
  • Unfold pastry; roll out each pastry sheet on light floured surface to 16x14-inch rectangle. Cut each sheet into 4 (8x7-inch) rectangles.
  • Melt caramels with half-and-half in heavy saucepan on low heat, stirring frequently until smooth.

1 ½ cups self-rising flour
2 tablespoons confectioners' sugar
¼ cup butter, melted
1 egg, beaten
¼ cup milk
1 ⅓ cups water
⅓ cup golden syrup
½ cup brown sugar
½ teaspoon lemon juice
¼ cup butter

Steps:

  • In a medium bowl, stir together the flour and confectioners' sugar. Make a well in the center. Combine the melted butter, egg and milk; pour into the well. Use a knife to stir until just combined. Set the dumpling mixture aside.
  • In a large saucepan, over medium-high heat, mix together the water, golden syrup, brown sugar and lemon juice until well blended. Add the remaining 1/4 cup of butter, and bring the mixture to a boil. Once the mixture is boiling, carefully drop heaping tablespoons of the dumpling mix into the sauce. Reduce heat to low, cover and cook for 10 minutes, or until the dumplings have risen and cooked through. Ladle syrup over the dumplings occasionally while cooking.
