This recipe comes from my brother's kitchen in New Mexico, he is a great cook.

Number Of Ingredients 8

4 eggs
1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
1 teaspoon ground nutmeg
1 teaspoon ground ginger
1 teaspoon ground cloves
15 slices whole wheat bread
1 cup butter, divided
1 cup confectioners' sugar for dusting

Steps:

  • In a medium bowl, whisk together the eggs, cinnamon, nutmeg, ginger, and cloves.
  • Melt about 1 tablespoon of butter in a large skillet over medium heat. Dip slices of bread one at a time into the egg, quickly coating each side but not fully saturating the bread.
  • Fry a few slices at a time in the buttered skillet until golden brown on each side. Add more butter to the skillet and continue with remaining slices. Melt remaining butter in the microwave at 15 second intervals. Place finished toast onto plates, drizzle with melted butter, and dust with confectioners' sugar.

4 large eggs
1 cup 2% milk
1 tablespoon honey
1/2 teaspoon ground cinnamon
1/8 teaspoon pepper
12 slices whole wheat bread
Optional: Cinnamon sugar or vanilla frosting

Steps:

  • In a shallow bowl, whisk eggs, milk, honey, cinnamon and pepper. Dip both sides of bread in egg mixture. Cook on a greased hot griddle 3-4 minutes on each side or until golden brown., If desired, sprinkle with cinnamon sugar or frost with vanilla icing. Freeze option: Cool French toast on wire racks. Freeze between layers of waxed paper in a resealable freezer container. To use, reheat French toast in a toaster oven on medium setting. Or, microwave each French toast on high for 30-60 seconds or until heated through.

This is our signature dish, served since Day 1. The toast is baked in the oven and has the perfect blend of orange and nutmeg flavoring. The tangy syrup makes the dish and is so simple to prepare.

Number Of Ingredients 13

1/3 cup butter, melted
14 slices French bread (3/4 inch thick)
3 large eggs
3/4 cup orange juice
1/2 cup 2% milk
1/3 cup sugar
1-1/2 teaspoons vanilla extract
1/4 teaspoon ground nutmeg
ORANGE SYRUP:
1/2 cup butter, cubed
1/2 cup sugar
1/3 cup thawed orange juice concentrate
Confectioners' sugar

Steps:

  • Pour butter into a 15x10x1-in. baking pan; top with bread. In a small bowl, whisk the eggs, orange juice, milk, sugar, vanilla and nutmeg; pour over bread. Cover and refrigerate for 2 hours or overnight., Bake, uncovered, at 350° for 15 minutes. Turn slices over. Bake 15-20 minutes longer or until golden brown., Meanwhile, for syrup, in a microwave-safe bowl, combine the butter, sugar and orange juice concentrate. Microwave, uncovered, on high for 1 to 1-1/2 minutes or until hot and bubbly, stirring once. Serve with French toast; dust with confectioners' sugar.
