1/4 cup flour
1/2 teaspoon salt (optional)
1/4 teaspoon pepper
1/4 teaspoon ground mustard
1/4 teaspoon Worcestershire sauce
1 1/2 cups milk
2 cups shredded cheddar cheese

Steps:

  • IN a saucepan melt butter.
  • Stir in flour, salt if desired, pepper, mustard and Worcestershire sauce until smooth.
  • Gradually add milk.
  • Bring to a boil, cook and stir 2 mins or til thickened.
  • Reduce heat.
  • Add cheese.
  • Cook and stir til melted.
  • Transfer to crock pot.
  • Keep warm on LOW.
  • Serve with bread, ham, sausage or broccoli.

This is a very yummy. This adult version is made with beer and is a great pre-dinner nibbler for guests. It also doubles as a light luncheon dish served over hot toast. This works best in a small maximum 3 ½ quart slow cooker.

8 ounces old cheddar cheese, shredded
1 cup beer
2 egg yolks, beaten
1/4 teaspoon dry mustard
1 teaspoon Worcestershire sauce
1 teaspoon packed brown sugar
1 pinch cayenne pepper
white bread, crusts removed, cut into 1 inch cubes and lightly toasted under broiler

Steps:

  • In slow cooker stoneware, combine cheese and beer. Cover and cook on LOW for 30 minutes, or until cheese melts.
  • In a bowl, whisk together egg yolks, mustard, Worcestershire sauce, brown sugar and cayenne. Pour mixture into slow cooker stoneware and stir until thickened.
  • Spear toasted bread with fondue forks and dip in cheese, ensuring that guests have napkins or plates to catch any dripping sauce.
  • TIP: Always keep a bottle of Worcestershire sauce in the pantry as just a spoonful of this venerable concoction (it was created over a century and a half ago) adds welcome zest to many dishes. Serves 6.

1 cup peanut butter
1 (14 ounce) can sweetened condensed milk
1 (13 ounce) can evaporated milk
1 cup peanut butter chips
1/4 cup butter

Steps:

  • In a 2 quart slow cooker, combine peanut butter, both kinds of milk, chips and butter, mix well.
  • Cover and cook on low for 3-4 hours or until smooth, stirring once during the cooking time.
  • Arrange dippers on a platter around the fondue - apples, banana, marshmallows, graham teddy crackers, etc. You can then roll the dippers into crushed nuts if desired.
  • Note - If the fondue is too thick, stir in a bit more milk.

9 oz swiss cheese, grated
9 oz gruyère cheese, grated
1 tablespoon cornstarch
1 clove garlic
¾ cup white wine
½ lemon, juiced
salt, to taste
pepper, to taste
vegetable
1 cup bread cubes
12 oz cured meat
assorted fruit

Steps:

  • In a medium bowl, toss the Swiss and Gruyère cheeses with the cornstarch.
  • Smash the garlic clove, but leave it whole.
  • Add the cheese, wine, lemon juice, garlic, salt, and pepper to the slow cooker.
  • Cover, turn the slow cooker on high, and cook for 15 minutes. Remove the garlic and stir. Cover again and cook for 45 minutes more on high, stirring every 15 minutes, until the cheese is melted and smooth. Be careful not to overcook or the fondue will seize.
  • Turn the slow cooker to warm and serve the fondue with your favorite items for dipping.
  • Enjoy!
