STUFFED ITALIAN BREAD RECIPE - (4.4/5)

Stuffed Italian Bread Recipe - (4.4/5) image

Provided by Pattywak

Number Of Ingredients 9

1 Italian loaf of bread, about 12 inches long
1 stick butter, melted
1/8 cup olive oil
3 teaspoon minced onion
2 to 3 cloves garlic, grated
1 tablespoon Dijon mustard
1 tablespoon poppy seeds
3 teaspoon parsley, chopped (add more if you wish)
12 ounces cheese, grated (I used a mix of white cheddar and Monterey Jack), or cube blocks of Monterey Jack and stuff inside.

Steps:

  • Preheat the oven to 350°F. Mix the melted butter, olive oil, onion, garlic, dijon mustard, poppy seeds and parsley in a bowl. Cut the bread into cubes with X slices without cutting all the way through the bottom crust. Pour the butter-onion garlic mixture carefully into those X cracks using a small spoon and over the top of the bread. Fill those delicious cracks with the grated cheese. (It seems like a lot of work and trouble but it's all worth it. Yes.) Wrap the entire loaf with foil, sealing the sides properly and bake for 15 to 20 minutes. Remove from the oven and unwrap. Bake for another 10 minutes until the cheese is melted and gooey.

SOURDOUGH CHEESE BREAD

Sourdough Cheese Bread image

A very rich, gooey appetizer, but wonderful for football Sundays!

Provided by LISA FRIEND

Categories     Appetizers and Snacks

Time 45m

Yield 35

Number Of Ingredients 8

1 (1 1/2) pound round loaf sourdough bread
1 cup butter
1 tablespoon Dijon mustard
1 teaspoon lemon juice
1 tablespoon poppy seeds
1 tablespoon seasoned salt (such as Spice Islands® Beau Monde Seasoning)
1 tablespoon minced onion
1 pound Swiss cheese, sliced

Steps:

  • Preheat oven to 350 degrees F (175 degrees C). Line a baking sheet with aluminum foil.
  • Cut a checkerboard pattern into the sourdough bread round by cutting 5 or more slices about 1 inch apart into the sourdough bread round with a serrated knife, taking care not to cut all the way through the loaf. Rotate the bread a quarter turn, and cut 5 or more slices going the other way, to finish the checkerboard pattern. The slices will still be attached at the bottom.
  • Melt the butter over low heat in a saucepan, and stir in the mustard, lemon juice, poppy seeds, seasoned salt, and onion until the mixture is well combined. Place the bread loaf onto the prepared baking sheet, and carefully pour the butter mixture all over the bread, including in the cracks between squares, letting the butter mixture soak into the bread. Stuff slices of Swiss cheese into the spaces between the bread squares.
  • Bake in the preheated oven until the cheese is melted and bubbling, and the loaf is browned, about 30 minutes. To serve, let guests pull the bread apart into individual squares.

HAM AND DIJON CROISSANT SANDWICHES

Ham and Dijon Croissant Sandwiches image

Melt-in-your-mouth baked croissant sandwiches of thinly sliced ham, Swiss cheese, and a delicious buttery Dijon and poppy-seed sauce! Perfect for luncheons or entertaining, or packed into picnic lunches; great served warm, or at room temperature. Use as much ham and cheese as you like! Sandwiches are easily made up in advance and individually wrapped in foil, then refrigerated or frozen (use a freezer bag) for later use. Defrost overnight in the fridge, then bake as directed. Or, if frozen, bake at 300 F for about 1/2 hour until warm. If using mini-rolls, you may place them in a buttered baking dish and bake for the specified amount of time (no need to individually wrap)--I've also microwaved them. Enjoy!

Provided by BecR2400

Categories     Lunch/Snacks

Time 40m

Yield 8 Croissant Sandwiches, 4-8 serving(s)

Number Of Ingredients 7

8 freshly baked croissants or 8 hawaiian sweet dinner rolls, split
1/2 cup butter, very soft
1 tablespoon Dijon mustard
2 tablespoons finely chopped white onions
2 teaspoons poppy seeds
8 thin slices virginia ham
8 slices swiss cheese

Steps:

  • Preheat oven to 350°F.
  • In a small bowl, combine softened butter with the Dijon, chopped onion, and poppyseeds.
  • Spread generously onto both (inner) sides of the split croissants.
  • Place one slice each of ham and Swiss cheese into each croissant, and replace tops.
  • Wrap each croissant or Hawaiian roll in a square of foil, sealing carefully. At this point sandwiches may be baked right away, or refrigerate or freeze (use a freezer bag) for later use.
  • Bake in a preheated 350 F oven for 15-20 minutes, until hot. If frozen, bake at 300 F for about 25-30 minutes, until heated through.
  • Serve hot, or at room temperature. Good sides are soup or salad, and fresh fruit for dessert.
  • NOTE: If using mini-rolls, you may bake them in a buttered baking dish (no need to individually wrap).
