Number Of Ingredients 6

2 cups all-purpose flour
2 tablespoons cream of tartar
1/2 cup salt
2 cups water
2 tablespoons canola oil
Food coloring

Steps:

  • In a large saucepan, combine the flour, cream of tarter and salt. Gradually add the water and oil. Cook and stir over medium heat for 3-5 minutes or until a ball forms., Cool. Divide dough and knead in colors as desired. Store in airtight containers or resealable plastic bags.

While looking for craft recipes for my kids I found this on a website for children who have nerve injuries to their arms and hands. They had a lot of wonderful recipes for things kids could do to move their hands. Here is the one I most want to try.

1 (1/3 ounce) package sugar-free jello
2 cups flour
1 cup salt
4 tablespoons cream of tartar
2 cups boiling water
2 tablespoons oil

Steps:

  • Mix the dry ingredients in a pan.
  • Add the liquid and turn up the heat to medium.
  • Stir until the mixture forms a ball.
  • Place the ball on waxed paper until it cools.
  • Different flavors of jello will produce different colors and scents.

1 cup nonfat dry milk powder
1 cup creamy peanut butter
1 cup honey

Steps:

  • In a bowl, combine all ingredients. Chill. Shape into faces, letters, shapes, etc. or cut out with cookie cutters. If mixture is too sticky, roll in additional milk powder. Decorate with raisins or candy if desired.

2 ½ cups white flour
½ cup salt
1 tablespoon cream of tartar
2 (0.13 ounce) packages unsweetened, fruit-flavored soft drink mix (such as KOOL-AID®)
3 tablespoons vegetable oil

Steps:

  • Bring the water to a boil in a sauce pan; remove from heat and set aside.
  • Whisk together the flour, salt, cream of tartar, and soft drink mix in a large bowl; stir the vegetable oil into the flour mixture using a spoon, not a whisk. Pour the hot water into the bowl and continue stirring. When the dough is cool enough to handle, turn it onto a lightly-floured surface and knead until smooth and elastic, about 8 minutes. Store unused portions in refrigerator.

1 tablespoon vegetable oil

  • Mix all dry ingredients in bowl then oil, then pour boiling water in and mix thoroughly.
  • Wrap in cellophane or air tight container and store in fridge.
  • Should last a few months.
