Homemade Ginger Juice image

Homemade Ginger Juice - refreshingly tangy, minty and sweet with a zing natural drink made with only 5 simple ingredients. Replace sugar with honey, and you have one wholesome detoxifying drink that can either be served hot or cold!

Provided by Imma

Categories     Drinks

Time 25m

Number Of Ingredients 5

4 ounce fresh ginger root (, (about 1 cup chopped peeled ginger) )
14- 16 leaves fresh mint
6 -7 cups water (, (adjust to desired strength, with more or less))
2 large lemons (, juiced)
1 cup white sugar (, (sub with honey, see notes))

Steps:

  • Peel ginger using a knife or spoon to remove skin.
  • Crush mint in a small bowl using a small pestle ( I used a wooden lemon juicer). Set aside.
  • Then chop ginger into rough chunks, small enough to easily blend in a blender or food processor. An alternative method would be to use a microplane or fine edge of a grater. Do not cut ginger in chunks if using a grater to grate the ginger.
  • Bring about 7 cups of water to a boil. Use a kettle or pot.
  • While water is heating up, place ginger into a blender, cover with 1 cup water, and blend until ginger is thick and pasty.
  • Add ginger paste in a large bowl with mints and boiled water.
  • Sieve ginger using cheese cloth over large bowl or cup, then squeeze out juice from ginger and let it fall into the bowl. Discard the remaining paste.
  • Stir lemon juice and sugar into ginger juice until sugar has dissolved and serve garnished with mint leaves.
  • Serve with ice if desired. Some people like it hot.

GINGER BEER CONCENTRATE

Ginger Beer Concentrate image

Mix this fiery ginger beer concentrate with club soda to make homemade ginger beer. Adjust the amounts of sweetener, club soda and lime to suit your tastes. Preserve leftover concentrate by freezing it in ice cube trays.

Provided by Cookie and Kate

Categories     Beverages

Time 20m

Number Of Ingredients 5

1 1/4 pounds fresh ginger, roughly peeled and chopped into 1-inch chunks
2 cups filtered water, divided
1 cup freshly squeezed lime juice (from 4 to 5 limes), plus more as garnish
1 1/4 to 1 1/2 cups of agave nectar, honey or pure cane sugar (to taste, see note)
club soda

Steps:

  • In a blender or food processor, liquefy the ginger and 1 cup of water for 3 minutes. Strain the juice into a large bowl or pitcher. Transfer the ginger pulp back to to the blender or food processor, add another 1/2 cup of water, and liquefy again. Strain again, adding the liquid to the first batch. Again transfer the pulp along with another 1/2 cup water, liquefy again, and add to the liquid. Press on the solids with the back of a big spoon to squeeze out as much of the juice as you can.
  • Discard the mashed solids and rinse out your blender/food processor. Pour the liquid into the blender/food processor. Pour in the lime juice and 1 1/4 cups sweetener. Blend for 30 seconds. To taste for sweetness, pour about 2 ounces ginger concentrate into a glass along with about 8 ounces of club soda. If it's not sweet enough, blend in more sweetener until it reaches your preferred sweetness.
  • Refrigerate up to 3 weeks. Shake before serving. Add a squeeze of fresh lime to your ginger beer before serving. Fresh mint and/or candied ginger make nice garnishes as well.

HOW TO MAKE GINGER JUICE

How To Make Ginger Juice image

How To Make Ginger Juice a tasty and healthy addition to your morning smoothie or tea! This ginger juice has lots of health benefits plus adds a nice flavor to you drinks!

Provided by Lisa

Categories     Drinks

Time 10m

Number Of Ingredients 2

1 medium size head of ginger
1 ½ cup water plus more for diluting

Steps:

  • Peel the ginger. I like to use the tip of a spoon to scrape the outside of the ginger off. It's actually really easy! (1 medium ginger)
  • Place peeled ginger in a high-powered blender or food processor (I love using my Breville processor or blender for this!)
  • Add 1 ½ cups water and puree on high for 30-45 seconds. You want the ginger to be processed into tiny bits.
  • Using a mesh strainer, strain the ginger juice to remove all the pulp. You can save this for baking into muffins or just toss it.
  • Add about 8 cups to the ginger juice concentrate (add less if you want super concentrated, more if you want it diluted more).
  • Store in the refrigerate for up to a month or freeze into ice cubes (my favorite way to use ginger juice!).
  • Use in smoothies, soups, tea, or coffee!
  • Enjoy!
