Chicory coffee is a New Orleans standby and is best enjoyed au lait. But we've done it one better with this frozen, creamy riff that perfectly complements a serving of warm King Cake Bread Pudding.

Number Of Ingredients 7

2 cups whole milk
1 (14-oz.) can sweetened condensed milk
1 (5-oz.) can evaporated milk
1/4 cup strong-brewed chicory coffee, chilled
2 tablespoons granulated sugar
1 teaspoon vanilla extract
1/8 teaspoon kosher salt

Steps:

  • Whisk together all ingredients; cover and chill 2 hours. Pour mixture into freezer bowl of a 1-quart electric ice-cream maker, and proceed according to manufacturer's instructions. (Instructions and times will vary.) Transfer to a freezer-safe container, and freeze until easily scooped, at least 2 hours.

3 cups heavy cream
4 large eggs
1 large egg yolk
¼ cup granulated sugar
1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
8 cups ¾-in.-cubed king cake
Purple, green, and yellow sparkling sugar
Chicory Ice Cream

Steps:

  • Preheat oven to 375°F. Whisk together cream, eggs, egg yolk, granulated sugar, and cinnamon in a large bowl until smooth. Stir in king cake cubes; let stand 5 minutes.
  • Spoon mixture into a lightly greased 11- x 7-inch baking dish, and bake in preheated oven until light golden brown and set in center, 40 to 45 minutes. Sprinkle with sparkling sugar; serve immediately with Chicory Ice Cream.
