This is a delicious blend of plain tea, wonderful vanilla, and spices to create the perfect mug for late night, morning, or really any time of day at all!

1 cup boiling water
1 orange pekoe tea bag
2 tablespoons milk
1 teaspoon white sugar
½ teaspoon vanilla extract
½ teaspoon ground cinnamon

Steps:

  • Pour boiling water into a mug. Steep tea bag in water for 3 minutes; remove and discard.
  • Stir milk, sugar, vanilla extract, and cinnamon into the tea.

2 chai tea bags
2 tablespoons white sugar
1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
1 teaspoon vanilla extract
2 cups ice, divided
½ cup milk

Steps:

  • Bring water and tea to a boil in a saucepan; boil for 3 to 4 minutes. Remove saucepan from heat and stir in sugar, cinnamon, and vanilla extract. Remove tea bags from water.
  • Blend 1 cup ice and milk together in a blender until smooth. Add remaining 1 cup ice and chai tea mixture; blend until smooth.

This is actually a knock-off of Celestial Seasonings Madagascar Vanilla Red Tea. Some time ago I decided to buy all my own loose leaf tea ingredients and make my own tea blends (it's actually cheaper that way!). I used to buy Madagascar Vanilla Red and really enjoyed it, so of course I set out to make my own knock-off version. I looked up the ingredient list, and it's literally just vanilla and red rooibos. So, after some experimentation, I've got a ratio that tastes just like the original! This tea is best hot, but would probably make a nice iced tea too. Note: I've listed things in teaspoons because this website won't let me list it in parts, but it's technically in a ratio, so you can make whatever quantity you want.

1 teaspoon rooibos tea bag
1 teaspoon vanilla bean

Steps:

  • Assemble all the ingredients and place in a tea ball. Make sure you chop the vanilla bean into little pieces first. Note: Food.com made me list the rooibos under "rooibos tea bags", but I used loose-leaf red rooibos tea.
  • Place tea ball in hot water and steep for 10 minutes.

1 4-inch-by- 1/2-inch strip of orange zest
1 Tahitian vanilla bean, split, scraped and cut into 4 pieces
3 cloves, lightly bruised
Cheesecloth
1/2 pound red kidney beans
3 1/2 cups chicken stock
1/2 teaspoon salt (omit if stock is salty)
4 tablespoons corn oil or other light vegetable oil (see note)
2 tablespoons hazelnut oil
2 tablespoons sherry vinegar
2 tablespoons minced fresh parsley
2 or 3 twists of the pepper mill
Pinch of salt

Steps:

  • Tie the orange zest, vanilla seeds and pods and cloves in a small square of cheesecloth. Put the kidney beans in a large saucepan, bury the spice bag in the middle and add the chicken stock and salt.
  • Bring the liquid to a boil, then lower the heat and simmer gently until beans are cooked, about two hours.
  • Prepare the dressing by whisking together all the ingredients.
  • When the beans are tender, drain them, reserving the liquid for soup, if desired. Discard the spice bag. Mix the hot beans with the dressing and allow to cool to room temperature, stirring from time to time.
  • Chill the beans until about 10 minutes before wanted and serve at cool room temperature.

1 1/3 cups milk
1 tablespoon rooibos tea bag
1/4 teaspoon cardamom
1 1/2 teaspoons dried ginger
1 1/2 teaspoons cinnamon baking chips
1 teaspoon vanilla bean (cut into little pieces)
3 tablespoons sugar

Steps:

  • Put water and spices (except for the rooibos tea) into a small pot.
  • Add water and cook on medium for 6 minutes, then add rooibos tea.
  • Place lid on pot and cook for 6 minutes.
  • Add in milk and stir, then turn off the stove burner.
  • Add sugar and stir until completely dissolved.
  • Strain spices out and enjoy!

This simple loaf cake is wonderful with fresh berries and whipped cream. You may not be able to wait a day for it.

Number Of Ingredients 7

2 cups cake flour, plus more for pan
1/2 teaspoon salt
1 tablespoon baking powder
1/2 pound (2 sticks) unsalted butter, at room temperature, plus more for pan
1 1/2 cups sugar
5 large eggs
2 teaspoons pure vanilla extract

Steps:

  • Grease and flour a 10-by-5-by-3-inch loaf pan. Line bottom with parchment paper. With rack in center, heat oven to 325 degrees. Place a baking sheet on the rack to heat. Sift together flour, salt, and baking powder.
  • In an electric mixer with paddle attachment, beat butter on medium speed until light and fluffy, 3 to 4 minutes. Gradually add sugar; beat until creamy. Beat in eggs one at a time. Add vanilla; beat until creamy.
  • With mixer on lowest speed, gradually add flour mixture. Mix just until incorporated.
  • Scrape batter into prepared pan; tap on countertop to settle. Place pan on baking sheet in oven. Bake 1 hour to 1 hour and 15 minutes, until cake is golden on top and a tester inserted into center comes out clean.
  • Let pan cool on a rack for 1 hour. Slide knife around cake to loosen. Invert pan to remove cake, then place upright on rack. When completely cool, wrap tightly in plastic and let stand 24 hours. Serve with fresh mixed berries on the side.
