I think I got this from the Urban Peasant website. It is soooo good to make on a snowy night while curled up with another warm body and a movie.

4 cups milk
1 teaspoon rose water
1 pinch saffron thread
1 cinnamon stick
1 dried chili
1 dash vanilla
4 ounces grated semisweet chocolate
1/4 cup sugar
1/2 orange, zest of

Steps:

  • In a medium-sized pot, mix all the ingredients but the chocolate.
  • Bring to a boil and reduce to medium.
  • If you aren't a big spice person, remove the chili and cinnamon stick.
  • If you like things hot, leave them in.
  • Let it simmer for a few minutes, then add the chocolate.
  • With a whisk, combine the chocolate, then strain out the floaty things and serve.

Steps:

  • Combine sugar, cocoa and cinnamon in a small, heavy-duty saucepan; gradually stir in milk.
  • Warm over medium heat, stirring constantly, until hot (do not boil).
  • Remove from heat, stir in vanilla.
  • Beat with wire whisk until frothy.
  • Serve.

This is a variation on a hot chocolate recipe that I found on the net. It originally used 2 eggs, but I left them out.

4 cups whole milk
4 ounces mexican chocolate (3 ounces semi-sweet chocolate)
1 teaspoon cinnamon
4 tablespoons sugar
1 pinch salt
1 teaspoon vanilla, preferably Mexican
cinnamon stick (to garnish)

Steps:

  • In a medium sized saucepan, heat the milk over medium heat until scalding, but not boiling.
  • Break the chocolate into pieces. Add to the hot milk along with the cinnamon, sugar and salt. Stir until melted. Beat with a wire whisk until frothy.
  • Add the vanilla. Continue to whisk.
  • Pour into 4 mugs. Garnish with a cinnamon stick.

I've had this recipe for awhile. I like to make this cause it is very soothing, creamy and frothy. I always get rave reviews when I make this for friends!

Number Of Ingredients 7

6 cups milk
1/2 cup white sugar
3 ounces unsweetened chocolate, chopped
1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
2 beaten eggs
2 teaspoons vanilla extract
whipped cream, to taste

Steps:

  • In a large saucepan combine 1 cup of the milk, the sugar, chocolate, and cinnamon.
  • Cook and stir over medium-low heat until chocolate is melted.
  • Gradually stir in remaining milk.
  • Cook and stir until milk is hot.
  • Do not boil.
  • Gradually and slowly stir 1 cup of the hot milk mixture into eggs, then transfer entire mixture to saucepan.
  • Cook and stir for 2 minutes over low heat.
  • Remove from heat and stir in vanilla.
  • Stir quickly until very frothy.
  • Pour hot chocolate into mugs and dollop with whipped cream.

  • Whisk together sugar, cocoa, water, cinnamon, and nutmeg in a saucepan over medium heat.

  • Add vanilla and stir.

3 tablespoons sugar
2 teaspoons vanilla
1 teaspoon instant espresso powder
1/4 teaspoon cinnamon
grated nutmeg
2 eggs, room temperature
2 1/2 cups hot milk

Steps:

  • Pour first 7 ingredients (water - nutmeg) in blender until smooth.
  • Add eggs (see note in description).
  • With machine running, slowly add hot milk through the hole in top of the blender cover, blending until foamy.
  • Serve immediately with extra hot milk or whipped cream.
