Extremely tender melt in the mouth Crock Pot pork belly. Serve it on rice and with boiled eggs, simply amazing!

2 lb. boneless pork belly
2 Tbsp. minced garlic
2 Tbsp. brown sugar (or rock sugar)
½ cup light soy sauce
2 Tbsp. rice wine
3 Tbsp. dried shallot
1 tsp. five spice powder
½ tsp. white pepper
1 tsp. salt
2 Tbsp. dark soy sauce
4 cups filtered water (or more to cover the meat)
eggs (optional)​

Steps:

  • Cut the pork belly into large pieces, then brown for a few minutes before putting into your slow cooker.
  • Add all the seasonings and water (just enough to cover the pork ~ approximately 4 cups of water), then cook on high for 6 hours.
  • Add optional medium boiled eggs or other ingredients like bamboo shoots.
  • Serve hot over rice.
  • Spoon a bit of the braising liquid over the pork, eggs, and rice for extra flavor.

  • Cut the pork belly up into 2 centimetre thick chunks. This is the traditional Chinese way of serving it. If you're serving this western style with sides, you may want to cut into bigger serving sizes.
  • Place meat in pressure cooker, along with the other seasoning ingredients and cook for 15 minutes.
  • Remove all the ingredients from the pressure cooker and place in a large non-stick pan. Don't be alarmed if there seems to be more liquid, this is normal. Add the additional soy sauce and the brown sugar. Bring to a boil and then turn it down to a slow simmer. Cook until the liquid condenses into a thick gravy (about 25 minutes).That's it, ready to serve!
