HOMEMADE PUREED SWEET POTATO BABY FOOD



Homemade Pureed Sweet Potato Baby Food image

A quick and easy method for providing baby food for your little one without any added preservatives, sugar, or salt. Can store cooked puree for 3 days in refrigerator or 3 months in freezer.

2 sweet potatoes, peeled and halved, or more as desired
water to cover

Steps:

  • Fill a small saucepan with water; add sweet potatoes. Bring water to a boil and cook sweet potatoes until tender enough to break apart with a fork, 25 to 30 minutes.
  • Transfer sweet potatoes to a food processor or an immersion blender cup, reserving the cooking water. Blend sweet potatoes until smooth. Add 1/2 to 3/4 cup cooking water and blend until desired consistency is reached.

Number Of Ingredients 1

2 1/2 pounds sweet potatoes, skin on, cut into 2-inch pieces

Steps:

  • Arrange sweet potatoes on a steamer rack in a large pan over 1 inch of water. Cover, and bring to a boil. Reduce heat. Steam until tender, about 12 minutes. Pulse in a food processor, or pass through a food mill fitted with a medium disk. Add formula, breast milk, or boiled and cooled water as needed. Fill 1/4-cup plastic containers or ice-cube trays with puree.

  • Bake: Wash and dry the sweet potatoes. Prick with a fork in several places and then place the sweet potatoes on the baking sheet. Bake for 45 minutes - 1 hour or until a fork can easily prick the sweet potato. Let sit until cool to touch.
  • Peel: Cut into the skin of the potato lengthwise and peel away the skin of the potato. Scoop out the sweet potato meat and place it into a blender or food processor, adding in the mild curry powder and liquid.
  • Blend: Puree on high for 1-2 minutes or until smooth, adding in additional liquid in 1/4 cup increments if needed. I had to add in 1 cup of water to the puree pictured.
