Homemade Blueberry Sauce image

Homemade Blueberry Sauce comes together in just a few minutes. Try a spoonful with your morning yogurt, dolloped over a stack of pancakes, or spooned on top of cheesecake for a delicious treat!

2 cups fresh or frozen blueberries
1/2 cup water
1/2 cup granulated sugar
2 tablespoons fresh lemon juice
2 tablespoons cornstarch, mixed with 2 tablespoons cold water
1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract
Zest of 1 lemon (about 1 tablespoon), optional

Steps:

  • In a medium saucepan over medium heat, combine the blueberries, 1/2 cup of water, sugar and lemon juice. Stir frequently, and bring to a low boil.
  • In a small bowl, whisk the cornstarch with 2 tablespoons of cold water.
  • Slowly stir the cornstarch into the blueberries, taking care not to crush the blueberries. Simmer until the homemade blueberry sauce is thick enough to coat the back of a metal spoon, about 5 minutes.
  • Remove from heat and gently stir in vanilla and lemon zest.

An easy Blueberry puree recipe to use as baby food or as a flavoring agent in cocktails, cakes, oatmeal or even as a pancake sauce. This is the quickest way to incorporate blueberry flavor into your recipes.

2 cups fresh blueberries* (rinsed and picked over)
1/4 cup water
2 tablespoons lemon or lime juice
1 tablespoon Honey Syrup*

Steps:

  • Place blueberries in the bowl of a blender*.
  • If you are making this as baby food, pour in water. If you are making it to use in drinks, oatmeal, smoothies, etc, you can add in flavorings like lime juice and honey syrup instead of water.
  • Blend in medium-high speed until smooth, 30-45 seconds.
  • Pour into a jar, cover it with a lid, and store in the fridge until ready to use.

Delicious, warm blueberry sauce which is fabulous on pancakes, waffles, cheesecake or ice cream! Fresh or frozen blueberries work equally well.

2 cups fresh or frozen blueberries
¼ cup water
1 cup orange juice
¾ cup white sugar
¼ cup cold water
3 tablespoons cornstarch
½ teaspoon almond extract
⅛ teaspoon ground cinnamon

Steps:

  • In a saucepan over medium heat, combine the blueberries, 1/4 cup of water, orange juice, and sugar. Stir gently, and bring to a boil.
  • In a cup or small bowl, mix together the cornstarch and 1/4 cup cold water. Gently stir the cornstarch mixture into the blueberries so as not to mash the berries. Simmer gently until thick enough to coat the back of a metal spoon, 3 to 4 minutes. Remove from heat and stir in the almond extract and cinnamon. Thin sauce with water if it is too thick for your liking.

  • Arrange 3 bananas (unpeeled) and 1 pint blueberries on a parchment paper-lined baking sheet. Roast in a 350 degrees F oven until the berries burst and the banana peels are deep brown, 20 to 25 minutes. Remove from the oven and let cool slightly, then peel the bananas. Puree the fruit in a food processor until smooth. Let cool, then refrigerate in an airtight container for up to 3 days or freeze for up to 1 month.
