CHICKEN JERKY FOR DOGS
You can dehydrate your own chicken for you dogs at a fraction of the cost of commercial chicken jerky. I found the method on expertvillage.com. Edited to add: Well, here's a great example why you shouldn't make a recipe public until after you've tried it. I've now made the recipe (after it was reviewed and found to be in need of a much longer cooking time) and the instructions have now been corrected. Note: Regarding garlic and dogs: Many dogs enjoy the taste of garlic and it's a natural flea repellent. A small bit of cooked garlic should not be toxic. However, according to the American Animal Hospital Association, raw and spoiled garlic is toxic and potentially fatal to dogs. Consult with your veterinarian before using and use in small quantities.

Steps:
- Preheat oven to 200°F.
- Slice the chicken into thin strips. You should end up with about 7 or 8 slices.
- Place chicken slices on a baking sheet and bake for 2 to 2 1/2 hours to remove moisture (cooking time will depend on thickness of chicken and whether chicken is refrigerated or warm from oven. I baked raw chicken until no longer pink then allowed it to cool enough to be handled before slicing into strips).
- Allow to cool.

Steps:
- Preheat oven to 170-180 degrees Fahrenheit or lowest temperature setting.
- Lightly grease a cookie sheet, using one with a slight edge because there will be water and juices from the chicken during the first hour of cooking.
- Slice chicken breasts in strips no more than ¼-inch thick.
- Place slices on a greased cookie sheet, leaving at least a ½-inch between slices.
- Bake for two hours. After two hours, check the slices and see if they're dry.
- Continue baking until slices appear very dried.
- When done, remove the treats from the oven and cool on a drying rack.
- When the treats are completely cool, bag in zippered bags or place in an airtight container and refrigerate.

THESE CHICKEN JERKY DOG TREATS HAVE A PEANUT BUTTER MARINADE - YOUR DOG WILL THANK YOU

Steps:
- Preheat your oven to 170ºF.
- Remove any excess fat or bits of bone from the chicken breasts and pat dry.
- Mix together the peanut butter and soy sauce, which creates the marinade for the jerky. Stir and thin with up to 1 tablespoon of additional water to create a smooth paste. Coat the chicken with the peanut butter mixture, and place in the freezer for 1 hour. Slightly freezing the chicken makes it easier to thinly slice.
- Remove the chicken from the freezer, and cut as thinly as possible.
- Cover a sheet tray with parchment paper, and arrange the thin slices in a single layer. Place in the oven, set the timer for 2 hours, and hang out with your pup while the jerky cooks.
- Your jerky is ready! Once cool, cut with scissors into smaller bits, or leave as is for big mouthfuls of chewiness. Store in a sealable container, and your homemade chicken jerky is good for up to 30 days - if it lasts that long. And the jerky is totally human-tasty, too. It's low in fat and sodium while being a high-in-protein pick-me-up.

Steps:
- Whisk together your marinade ingredients.
- Place chicken in a shallow dish or plastic bag and cover with marinade. Place in the fridge and marinate 12 - 24 hours.
- Place chicken chunks onto dehydrator trays. Set to the HIGH or MEAT setting. Dehydrate for 2 - 12 hours, no flipping necessary, until jerky is dry
- Cut a piece in half to test for doneness. Jerky is dry when there is no moisture in the center of the treat and it is the same colour throughout.
- Preheat your oven to 275F and lay your chews out on a baking sheet. Allow the oven to come fully to temperature, then cook chews for 10 minutes to kill off any harmful bacteria.
- Allow treats to cool completely before storing or packaging.
