CROCK POT SAUSAGE AND PEPPERS
These Crock Pot Sausage and Peppers are so tasty and incredibly flavorful and simple to make. Italian sausage, peppers, onions and seasoning.

Steps:
- Slice up all the green peppers, red peppers and onions. This takes the most time in the preparation. The rest is a breeze!
- Pop all of your sliced veggies into a wide (or oval) 4 to 6-quart slow cooker.
- Season veggies with Italian seasoning, garlic powder along with salt and pepper.
- In a bowl or measuring cup, whisk together tomato paste with 1 cup warm water.
- Pour this tomato paste mixture over peppers and onion. Stir well. Cover and allow to cook on low for 4-6 hours (stirring occasionally).
- When peppers and onions are soft and cooked, it's time to start grilling up those sausages! Place 5 Johnsonville Italian Sweet Sausages onto the grates of the Johnsonville Sizzling Sausage Grill.
- Close lid and turn on the power button. Now, sit back and relax! The grill will do all the work! There is a thermometer inside the grill that will ensure the sausages reach the perfect temperature (about 10-15 minutes).
- The grill will beep when sausages are ready! Continue with the second pack of Italian sweet sausages.
- Place cooked sausages into your slow cooker along with the sausage and peppers. Sir it all around. Turn slow cooker on the warm setting and cover until ready to serve!
- Serve it all up by itself or on hot dog buns!
- Note: If you like, you can serve it up my favorite way! Slice up the sausages and mix it all together with the onions and peppers mixture. The sausage will really soak up the flavors!

Steps:
- Cook turkey sausage in heavy skillet over medium heat until browned, turning occasionally.
- Layer half of the onions on bottom of 3-4 quart crockpot, then add half of the peppers.
- Add all of the browned turkey sausage, then the rest of the onions and peppers.
- Add bay leaves and other spices.
- Combine diced undrained tomatoes, tomato paste, and red wine in small bowl and mix well to blend.
- Pour over mixture in crockpot.
- Cover slow cooker and cook on low for 6 hours.

- Lightly coat a 6-quart or larger slow cooker with nonstick spray. Heat a large skillet over medium high. Add 1/2 tablespoon oil. Once the oil is hot, add half of the sausages in a single layer (do not crowd the pan or the sausages will not brown properly). Cook for 1 to 2 minutes on all four sides, or until the outsides are golden brown (the sausages do not need to be cooked all the way through.) Transfer to the slow cooker. Add the next 1/2 tablespoon olive oil and repeat with remaining sausages.
- Increase the heat slightly. Add the final 1/2 tablespoon oil, then the onions, 1 tablespoon water, salt, and pepper. Cook until the onions are starting to brown and become tender, 5 to 6 minutes. Add the garlic and red pepper flakes and cook 1 additional minute, then add the wine. Let cook until the wine evaporates, scraping up any bits that have stuck on to the bottom of the pan. Transfer the onions and any pan juices to the slow cooker with the sausages.
- Add the bell peppers and crushed tomatoes to the slow cooker. Cover and cook for 5 to 6 hours on low or 2 to 3 hours on high, or until sausages are cooked through and tender. (I prefer and recommend the low, long cooking time, as it makes the sausages more tender, but high works if you are in a hurry.) Serve over pasta or inside rolls with provolone cheese on top.
