EASTER EGG NESTS

Easter Egg Nests image

These are so pretty as an Easter treat. I've seen these topped with "Peeps" as well. They're a fun, but messy project but who doesn't mind licking chocolate off of their fingers??? Choose your favorite flavor of Jelly Bellys to decorate them with and then drop a few Jelly Bellys on the serving place as garnish. The original recipe is from my grandmother - adapted to make Easter Egg Nests.

EASTER NESTS

Easter Nests image

Yes, these are cute; yes, they are kitsch, but I love them all the same. I used to make them with my children when they were little.

Provided by Nigella

Yield Makes: 5 nests

Number Of Ingredients 5

200 grams milk chocolate
25 grams dark chocolate
25 grams unsalted butter
100 grams shredded wheat
about 25 multicoloured sugar-coated little chocolate eggs

Steps:

  • You will need 1 baking sheet, lined with oiled foil. Break up the chocolate into small pieces and put it in a glass bowl with the butter. Melt on a medium heat in the microwave for about 2 minutes - I give it a minute, then look to see how much more it might need - or over water. When it's melted, give it a stir, then leave it to one side for a moment or two. You need it to be a bit cooler or it might burn the children's hands. Crumble the shredded wheat into another bowl. Now mix the contents of the two bowls and remove a small handful of messy mixture to the lined baking tray and form into a round nest shape, about 7cm in diamter. Don't worry if you feel it won't stick together: it will as it cools. Leave in a cool place (though not the fridge) until set, then remove to a plate or a wooden board and fill the centre with the eggs (about 5 per nest).

SIMPLE EASTER NESTS

Simple Easter Nests image

Just my take on a favorite recipe!! There are so many out there but this is the way I like to make them!! When I made this today I yielded 6 large muffin tins, 6 small, and two left over "hand formed" nests. ;) Total of 14 assorted sizes - depends on your pans what you will yield. Cook time is chill time.

Provided by Mommy Diva

Categories     Candy

Time 1h15m

Yield 14 nests

Number Of Ingredients 4

2 cups chocolate chips
2 tablespoons creamy peanut butter
4 cups chow mein noodles
cooking spray

Steps:

  • Heat water in double boiler over medium heat and add chocolate chips to top portion.
  • When chocolate begins to melt, add peanut butter and continue to stir until creamy.
  • Add broken chow mein noodles, stirring until completely coated.
  • Remove from heat and place upper portion on a folded towel to allow cooling while you prepare tins.
  • Spray muffin tins (I liked the large size best, but make both for varied sizes) with cooking spray (such as Pam).
  • Spoon generous amount of mixture into each cup creating a well in the center as you go.
  • Continue until all of mixture is used up.
  • Place jelly beans, M&M's Peeps or other candies for garnish as desired.
  • Chill in refridgerator for at least 1 hour or until chocolate has hardened.
  • Remove from tins and serve or package to gift - should be used within a couple of days.
  • For additional garnish, can be served on dyed green coconut and tied in cellophane bundles with ribbons to give as gifts.
  • Enjoy!
