Irish breakfast tea leaves
Milk
Sugar cubes
Lemon slices
Honey

Steps:

  • Fill a kettle with cold water and set it to boil. As the water nears a boil, pour a little of it into a teapot to warm it, swirling the water around and then discarding it.
  • For each cup of tea desired, place a spoonful of loose tea leaves into the empty, warmed teapot. Pour the boiling water into the teapot and let the tea steep 3 to 6 minutes, depending on the type of tea leaves.
  • Gently stir the tea before pouring it through strainers into teacups. Serve with milk and sugar cubes, or lemon slices and honey.

It's tea time! These are quick, throw-together treats that are perfect for dunking in tea (and coffee too). And remember, you can make as many as you need by using more packages of crescent rolls (and everything else too). Posted for ZWT 6.

1 (8 ounce) package refrigerated crescent dinner rolls (8 rolls per package)
3 tablespoons strawberry fruit preserves (or jam) or 3 tablespoons raspberry fruit preserves (or jam)
1 tablespoon butter, melted
1 tablespoon chopped blanched almond
1 tablespoon confectioners' sugar

Steps:

  • Preheat the oven to 375 degrees. Separate the crescent rolls into individual triangles. Cut each triangles in half lengthwise, making 16 long triangles.
  • spread about 1/2 t. of preserves over each triangle. Roll each triangle from the wide end to the point, and place on a cookie sheet that has been sprayed with nonstick cooking spray.
  • Brush with butter and sprinkle with chopped nuts. Bake for 15-17 minutes, or until golden. When cool, sprinkle with the confectioners' sugar and serve.

  • After the Scones, Tarts and Cakes. Once the scones are eaten, it is time for tarts and cakes on the top tier of the cake stand. The pastries or cakes are usually miniatures, dainty and often eaten in just two bites.
  • Victoria Sponge Cake. Another stalwart of the classic tea is the light and airy Victoria sponge cake with its layers set with whipped cream and strawberry jam.
  • Traditional British Fruit Cake. Thanks to its tea-soaked fruit and dash of brandy, this cake is a delight on an afternoon tea. It is served with nothing, just the way it is but perhaps, with another cup of tea.
  • Modern Additions. Fashions change and much as we cling to the traditions, occasionally it's time to add in some new ideas. Cheesecake is not particularly British but has been adopted and can now sometimes be found on an afternoon tea.
