When I set one of these appetizers out on a plate with knife and crackers, it draws a crowd! It disappears so fast, I keep a spare in the refrigerator, and a couple in the freezer for the holidays.

1 (16 ounce) package grated sharp Cheddar cheese
1 (8 ounce) package cream cheese, softened
1 (4 ounce) package crumbled blue cheese
4 ounces butter
2 tablespoons finely grated onion
1 teaspoon Worcestershire sauce
½ cup finely chopped filberts
1 cup chopped filberts
1 cherry, halved
1 teaspoon chopped fresh parsley, or to taste

Steps:

  • Mix Cheddar cheese, cream cheese, blue cheese, butter, onion, and Worcestershire sauce together in a bowl using an electric mixer or in a food processor until thoroughly blended. Stir in finely chopped filberts.
  • Divide mixture into 2 balls using wet hands. Wrap balls in waxed paper and refrigerate until cool and firm, about 1 hour. Smooth and shape; roll firmly in chopped filberts. Wrap in plastic wrap and refrigerate until ready to serve, at least 1 hour. Garnish each cheese ball with 1 cherry half and parsley 1 hour before serving.

My mom made this cheeseball every Christmas when I was growing up. It is still one of my favorites! I am not sure of the ranch dressing's envelope size. I don't think it comes in multiple sizes though.

8 ounces sour cream
8 ounces cream cheese (softened)
0.5 (8 ounce) envelope ranch dressing mix
1/2 cup chopped pecans

Steps:

  • mix cheddar cheese, sour cream, cream cheese, and ranch dressing mix.
  • chill for 1 hour or until set.
  • roll in chopped pecans.
  • serve with Ritz crackers.

1 cup shortening
3/4 cup sugar
1 large egg
1 teaspoon vanilla extract
2-1/2 cups all-purpose flour
1/2 teaspoon baking powder
1/8 teaspoon salt
3/4 cup whole hazelnuts
GLAZE:
2 cups confectioners' sugar
3 tablespoons water
2 teaspoons vanilla extract
Sugar

Steps:

  • In a large bowl, cream shortening and sugar until light and fluffy. Beat in egg and vanilla. Combine the dry ingredients and gradually add to creamed mixture. , Roll heaping teaspoonfuls of dough into balls; press a hazelnut into each and reshape balls. Place 2 in. apart on ungreased baking sheets. , Bake at 375° for 12-15 minutes or until lightly browned. Cool on wire racks. In a bowl, combine the confectioners' sugar, water and vanilla until smooth; dip tops of cookies in glaze. Sprinkle with sugar.

1 cup butter
2 1/2 cups flour
3/4 cup brown sugar
2 tablespoons milk
1 cup filberts, finely chopped
1 cup chocolate wafer

Steps:

  • In a bowl, mix butter, flour, sugar and milk.
  • Add filberts and roll them into small balls and then into 'finger' shapes. The butter will hold the mix together.
  • Bake at 375 degrees for 10 minutes and then place on a cooling rack.
  • Once the cookies are cooled, melt the chocolate and dip either end of the finger. Enjoy!
