- In a small skillet, cook apples in butter until tender. Sprinkle with brown sugar. Cook until apples are golden brown and caramelized, about 5 minutes.

APPLE FRITTER RINGS WITH CARAMEL SAUCE
This quick and easy recipe for apple fritter rings stars juicy apple slices bathed in buttermilk batter and fried to golden brown perfection.

- In a medium bowl, whisk together the flour, baking powder, nutmeg, cinnamon, sugar and salt. In a separate large bowl, whisk together the egg and buttermilk and then whisk the egg mixture into the flour mixture just until combined.
- Slice the apples into 1/4-inch-thick rounds. Using the cookie cutters, cut each apple slice into rings, discarding the center core.
- Add 3 inches of oil to a large heavy-bottomed pot set over medium heat. Line a sheet tray with paper towels.
- When the oil reaches 350°F on your deep-fry thermometer, begin by dipping each apple slice in the batter, shaking off any excess then carefully lowering it into the oil. Add several apple slices to the oil but do not overcrowd the pot. Flip the apple slices occasionally so that they brown on all sides then using tongs, transfer them onto the paper towel-lined baking sheet. Repeat the battering and frying process with the remaining apple rings.
- Serve the apple rings immediately with caramel sauce for dipping.

FRIED APPLE RINGS + BOURBON CARAMEL SAUCE
These delicious, cinnamon coated fried apple rings are paired with a sweet bourbon caramel sauce

- In a wide heavy-bottomed pot, heat the oil on medium heat. On a small plate, mix together 1 1/2 tsp sugar with the cinnamon. Line a larger plate with paper towels and set aside. While the oil heats, mix the flour, baking soda, salt, egg, buttermilk and 1/2 tsp of the sugar in a large bowl with a whisk Slice the apples into thin 1/4 in circles and use a circle cutter to cut out the core With your hands or a pair of tongs, dip each apple ring into the batter to evenly coat each side and place in the hot oil. Fry 2-3 rings at a time for about 30 seconds on each side, turning until each ring is golden Immediately coat with cinnamon sugar and move to the towel lined plate to dry and cool. Repeat with all apple rings
- To make the bourbon caramel sauce, simply mix in a little bourbon with pre-made caramel sauce (or make your own!) and serve with warm fried apple rings for a delicious fall dessert
FRIED CARAMEL APPLE RINGS
Steps:
- Slice for 10 Min - Slice the apples into a 1/4 inch thick round shape. Hollow out the center of the slice to make a small round hole by using cookies cutter or melon baller. Use a paper towel to dry the apple slices.
- Melt for 15 Min - Melt 1 cup of caramel in a bowl. Pick up the apple ring with a chopstick; making sure the slice hangs at the tip of the stick, use another chopstick to balance the apple ring. Lightly dip the peel of the apple slice into the melted caramel and, in a rotating motion, spin the apple ring to coat the rest of the apple peel. Do the same to the rest of the apple rings. Set them aside.
- Whisk for 4 Min - Add 1 cup pancake mix and 2/3 cups of water in a bowl, whisk it together well.
- Pour for 10 Min - Pour vegetable oil into a pot, heat it up until it reaches 350°F on your thermometer. Dip the caramel apple rings in the pancake mixture. Use tongs to grab them and add them to the hot oil. Turn it occasionally. Once the rings turn golden brown on both sides, remove them and rest them on a plate with paper napkins to absorb the oil.
- Dip for 5 Min - Mix 1 cup of sugar and 1 tsp of cinnamon in a bowl. Dip the rings into the cinnamon sugar mix or top them with powdered sugar.

These are a great snack, side dish, dessert, breakfast...anything goes!! Another great way to use up apples that are past their prime. Simple, but different and very tasty, and kids love these, too. I think I practically lived on these when I was a kid...grandma made them for us all the time:) When served as a dessert, they are great with a dollop of whipped topping.

- Slice apples cross-wise into 1/2-inch thick rings.
- Combine flour, sugar, baking powder, and salt in medium bowl.
- In separate bowl, combine eggs, milk, and melted Crisco.
- Add egg mixture to dry mixture and beat until smooth.
- In large, heavy skillet, preheat about 1/2 inch deep shortening or oil to about 365 degrees.
- Dip apple slices, one at a time, into batter to coat well.
- Fry in hot oil about 2 1/2-3 min.
- or until brown and edges are crispy, turning once.
- Drain on paper towel.
- Sprinkle with cinnamon and sugar and serve warm.
