This is a great basic BBQ sauce our family got from a fireman friend. It has a nice zing from some horseradish. We've used it on everything from chicken to meatloaf! This is also great to increase the servings, bottle it up and refrigerate for multiple uses.

½ cup brown sugar
2 tablespoons cider vinegar
¼ cup ketchup
1 teaspoon ground dry mustard
1 teaspoon Worcestershire sauce
1 teaspoon horseradish sauce

Steps:

  • In a bowl, mix the brown sugar, cider vinegar, ketchup, dry mustard, Worcestershire sauce, and horseradish sauce. Refrigerate until ready to use.

2 tablespoons butter
1 medium onion, finely chopped
2 garlic, minced
½ cup orange juice
1 cup cider vinegar
2 tablespoons fresh lemon juice
2 slices lemon
1 cup real maple syrup
¼ cup Worcestershire sauce
2 cups ketchup
¼ cup molasses
¼ cup brown sugar
2 tablespoons dry mustard
1 teaspoon salt
½ teaspoon red pepper flakes
½ teaspoon ground cumin
½ teaspoon paprika

Steps:

  • Melt butter in a large saucepan over medium heat. Add the onion and garlic; cook and stir until tender, about 5 minutes. Stir in the orange juice, cider vinegar, lemon juice, lemon slices, maple syrup, Worcestershire sauce, ketchup, molasses, and brown sugar. Season with dry mustard, salt, red pepper flakes, cumin and paprika. Simmer for 45 minutes to 1 hour. Remove lemon slices before using.

This is a combination of different recipes I have tried over the past couple of years, keeping the elements I like the most. Everyone asks for the recipe so here it is! I like a spicy sauce. It's not too hot, but not sweet like most sauces out there. I'm still playing around with it, but I like how its going so far! ** update ** I have decided that perhaps pureeing the onions and garlic might be beneficial because most barbecue sauces don't have chunks of onion and garlic! I will work to change test and change this soon (3/2/10)

1 tablespoon vegetable oil
1/2 cup onion, minced
1 1/2 tablespoons garlic, minced
1/4 cup apple cider vinegar
1 1/2 cups ketchup
1/2 cup brown sugar
1 tablespoon dried mustard
1/2 tablespoon chili powder
1 teaspoon salt
1 teaspoon cumin
1/2 tablespoon cayenne pepper (to taste)
1 1/2 tablespoons hot sauce
1 teaspoon liquid smoke
2 teaspoons garlic powder
1 tablespoon honey
1/4 teaspoon black pepper

Steps:

  • Heat vegetable oil in a medium saucepan over medium heat. Add garlic and onions and cook, stirring, until softened.
  • Add the vinegar to the pan and cook for an additional 2 minutes.
  • Place everything else in the pan stir and bring to a simmer. Cook for at least 30 minutes, or until thick.
  • You may use it right away or cool it and refrigerate for later use.

A tangy and sweet barbecue sauce that is absolutely perfect for ribs, pulled pork or chicken. It's the result of trial and error over several years and many batches of sauce. I'm sure 99% of you will like it (or LOVE it)!

2 tablespoons butter
1 medium onion, finely chopped
2 garlic cloves, minced
1/2 cup orange juice
1 cup cider vinegar
2 tablespoons fresh lemon juice
2 lemon slices
1 cup maple syrup
1/4 cup Worcestershire sauce
2 cups ketchup
1/4 cup molasses
1/4 cup brown sugar
2 tablespoons dry mustard
1 teaspoon salt
1/2 teaspoon crushed red pepper flakes
1/2 teaspoon cumin
1/2 teaspoon paprika

Steps:

  • Melt butter in a 2 quart sauce pan. Add onion and garlic and cook 6 or 7 minutes until soft. Add remaining ingredients and simmer 45 minutes to one hour.
