DIRT CAKE
Dirt Cake is fun to serve at family gatherings, or to give as a gift. I've also taken it to church dinners. It not only tastes good but is unique.

DIRT CAKE I
This is a great conversation piece at parties. Adults love it as much as the children do. Get a new garden trowel, medium sized flower pot and artificial flower at a craft store for full effect.

GRANDMA'S CARROT CAKE
This recipe has been a favorite in our family for three generations. Different from traditional carrot cakes, this cake is extremely moist and flavorful and is topped with a buttermilk glaze while still warm. Try it and I think you will agree that it is the best!! Be certain to reduce the baking temperature to 325 degrees F(165 degrees C) if using a glass baking pan.

GRANNY CAKE
This cake was served at my nephew's pig picking after his wedding and it was delicious. You could hear everyone asking for the recipe! It is a bit different than the others posted. The original recipe calls for milnot instead of evaporated milk, but Zaar does not recognize milnot. The person that gave me the recipe said milnot may not be available in our area and evaporated milk could be substituted. I made this cake today for my cousin, who has broken her wrist. Needless to say, she and her boyfriend were delighted and loved it. It was so easy to make. It came out moist and delicious. If you prepare this, I hope you enjoy it!

- Heat oven to 350°F. Grease bottom and sides of 13x9-inch pan with shortening or spray with cooking spray. Make and bake cake as directed on box for 13x9-inch pan, using water, oil and eggs. Cool 10 minutes. Remove cake from pan to cooling rack. Cool completely, about 1 hour.
- On 13x9-inch cake board or platter, place cake upside-down. Cover surface of cake with 1 container of the frosting, using off-set spatula. Refrigerate cake 45 minutes or until frosting is firm.
- Apply second coat of frosting to cake, evening surface and filling any gaps that may be present at bottom edge of cake.
- Score top of cake with dull edge of large knife to make 12 squares. Decorate alternate squares with multicolored sanding sugar. Fill in remaining squares with clear sanding sugar.
- For flowers, cut each marshmallow in half using clean kitchen scissors. Dip green marshmallow halves into green sanding sugar; dip yellow marshmallow halves into yellow sanding sugar. The sugar will coat cut edges of marshmallows. Place dime-size dot of frosting in center of each white square on cake. Arrange 5 marshmallow "petals" into flower shape, sugared-side-up, on top of each frosting dot; press to adhere. Press yellow sugar pearl into center of each flower. Store cake loosely covered.
