  • Combine all ingredients and mix well.
  • Store in an airtight container.
  • 1 1/2 teaspoons of this mix equals one packet of commercial sazon.

  • Store in a glass container with a tight fitting lid, and store in a dry cool shelf where this sazon seasoning mix will last for 1-2 months.
  • * It can last longer, but be aware that ground herbs/spices lose their strong aroma quicker than if using fresh whole herbs/spices.

1 tablespoon garlic powder or granulated garlic
1 tablespoon culantro
1 tablespoon ground coriander seed
1 tablespoon cumin seed
1 tablespoon oregano, dried
1 tablespoon annatto (achiote) seeds

Steps:

  • Mix ingredients together well and use 1 1/2 teaspoons for each packet of the Goya Sazon your recipe calls for. Be sure you store the spice blend in some type of air tight container. I used a small mason jar with a tight fitting lid.

I find adding both achieves the reddish-orange color without affecting flavor. The salt in this recipe can be reduced or omitted as many dishes call for additional salt. I prefer to omit and just add salt as needed to dishes while I'm cooking. I hope you will enjoy it!
