AUSTRALIAN MEAT PIES

Australian Meat Pies image

These terrific little meat pies are often referred to as Australia's national food. Great for munching on during sporting events, or just for a fresh new dinner idea. Cool pies well before serving, as filling will be very hot. Eat by hand or with knife and fork, as desired.

Time 1h15m

Yield 12

Number Of Ingredients 13

1 pound ground beef
1 onion, chopped
¾ cup water
¼ cup ketchup
2 teaspoons Worcestershire sauce
2 cubes beef bouillon
½ teaspoon dried oregano
¼ teaspoon ground pepper, or to taste
¼ cup cornstarch
¼ cup cold water
1 (15 ounce) package refrigerated pie crusts for a double-crust pie
1 sheet frozen puff pastry, thawed
1 egg, beaten

Steps:

  • Preheat oven to 400 degrees F (200 degrees C). Grease a 12-cup muffin tin.
  • Heat a large skillet over medium-high heat. Cook and stir ground beef and onion in the hot skillet until meat is browned and crumbly, 5 to 7 minutes. (Drain and discard grease.) Add 3/4 cup water, ketchup, Worcestershire sauce, bouillon cubes, oregano, and black pepper. Bring to a boil, reduce heat, and simmer until combined, about 10 minutes.
  • Mix 1/4 cup cold water and cornstarch together in a bowl to form a paste; stir into meat mixture. Cook until thickened, about 5 minutes more. Remove from heat.
  • Use a 4-inch biscuit cutter to cut the pie crusts into 12 circles. Line each muffin cup with a circle, pressing into the bottom and sides. Fill each with the meat mixture. Use a 3-inch biscuit cutter to cut puff pastry dough into 12 circles. Top each filled muffin cup with with a circle and seal edges together. Brush pastry tops with beaten egg.
  • Bake in the preheated oven until crusts are brown and flaky, 15 to 20 minutes. Cool in pan before removing pies, about 10 minutes.

Crunchwrap Supreme (skillet recipe) image

Enjoy this delicious and tasty Homemade Crunchwrap Supreme Recipe at home. No need to head to the drive-thru when you can make this easy crunchwrap recipe.

Provided by Eating on a Dime

Categories     Main Course

Time 20m

Number Of Ingredients 10

1 lb ground meat
1 tablespoon taco seasoning seasoning
1/4 cup water
6 burrito size flour tortillas
6 tostada shells
1 cup sour cream
2 cups shredded lettuce
1 roma tomato (diced)
1 cup shredded pepper Jack cheese
nacho cheese

Steps:

  • In a skillet or large cooking pan, cook and crumble the ground beef over medium-high heat. When it is no longer pink, stir in the taco seasoning and the water.
  • Warm up the nacho cheese sauce in the microwave and set aside.
  • Place the flour tortillas on a plate and warm in the microwave for about 20 seconds.
  • Lay one tortilla on a flat surface. Spread a couple of tablespoons of nacho cheese in the middle of the tortilla.
  • Place ½ cup of taco meat on top of the nacho cheese.
  • Next, add the tostada shell, a thin layer of sour cream, lettuce, tomato, and lastly, the shredded pepper jack cheese.
  • To fold into the actual crunchwrap, start with the bottom of the tortilla and fold the edge up to the center of the fillings. Keep doing that, folding as tight as possible, as you work your way around the tortilla.
  • Spray another skillet or cooking pan with cooking spray and heat over medium heat. Place the crunchwrap supreme, seam-side down, onto the skillet. Cook for 2-3 min., or until golden brown.
  • Flip over and cook the other side for another 2-3 min or until golden brown.
  • Cook the rest of your crunchwraps and eat immediately.

  • Once the mixture is caramelised (it should turn brown), remove it from the heat! It gets harder to work the longer it is cooked.
  • Mix water and sodium bicarbonate (aka baking soda) and stir very quickly. The baking soda will form the airy layer of the candy.
  • Pour it out into a greased dish and wait for it to cool. Work quickly if you want to use a candy mold to make shaped pieces.
  • Eat quickly and enjoy. This treat should be eaten within a day, because natural moisture in the air will make it melt and turn sticky. Put in a sealed container to keep the moisture out if it to help keep longer and refrigeration in sealed container can help make it crisper and less sticky.
