I have taken the liberty of doubling this recipe because I have yet to meet a single person who didn't rave about the taste, eat too much of it, and then beg for the recipe! Now I am giving it to the world so I won't have to make it anymore. I think I have made it over 500 times...seriously. Serve hot with sturdy crackers.

7 tablespoons butter
2 sweet onions (such as Vidalia®), thinly sliced
1 pound Jarlsberg cheese, shredded
2 cups mayonnaise (such as Hellman's®)
1 pinch paprika, or more to taste

Steps:

  • Preheat oven to 350 degrees F (175 degrees C).
  • Melt butter in a large skillet over medium heat. Cook and stir onions in hot butter until soft and translucent, 7 to 12 minutes. Cool.
  • Stir onions, Jarlsberg cheese, and mayonnaise together in a large bowl. Spread cheese mixture into 2 pie dishes. Sprinkle the tops with paprika.
  • Bake in the preheated oven until dip puffs slightly and cheese is melted, 25 to 30 minutes.

A coworker shared this with me. I have made it a few times adjusting the wine and spices. If I am out of bread crumbs I have buttered bread and diced it, to top it off.

4 whole boneless chicken breasts (8 breast halves)
8 slices jarlsberg cheese
1 (10 1/2 ounce) can cream of mushroom soup
1/2 cup white wine
1/8 teaspoon black pepper
1/4 teaspoon garlic powder
1 1/2 cups breadcrumbs
1/4 cup butter, melted
1/2 lb asparagus, washed and trimmed (optional)

Steps:

  • Place chicken in baking dish.
  • Layer cheese on top.
  • Add asparagus, if desired.
  • Mix the soup, wine, garlic, and pepper.
  • Spread over chicken and cheese.
  • Top with bread crumbs and lastly drizzle with melted butter.
  • Bake at 350 degrees for 35 to 50 minutes (until chicken is done through).

3/4 cup reduced-fat mayonnaise
1 tablespoon minced red onion

  • In a medium bowl, stir together cheese, mayonnaise, onion, and parsley. Season with salt and pepper.
  • Garnish with more parsley, and serve with crackers, if desired.

1 cup all-purpose flour
1 teaspoon baking powder
1 pinch baking soda
3 tablespoons plain yogurt
½ teaspoon ground cardamom, divided
1 cup water, plus 1 tablespoon, divided
¼ teaspoon turmeric powder, optional, or 2 drops of orange food coloring
1 cup sugar
3 strands saffron
½ teaspoon lemon juice
oil, for frying
rabri, for serving

Steps:

  • In a large bowl, whisk together the flour, baking powder, and baking soda.
  • Add the yogurt and ¼ teaspoon of cardamom.
  • Add ½ cup (120 ml) of water and the orange food coloring. The batter should have the consistency of a thick pancake batter. Add more water if needed.
  • Cover and let rest in a warm place for 10-12 hours to ferment, or until small bubbles develop on top of the batter.
  • Once the batter has fermented, add the sugar and ½ cup (120 ml) of water to a small saucepan. Bring to a boil over medium heat.
  • Add the remaining ¼ teaspoon of cardamom, the saffron strands, and lemon juice.
  • Simmer until a sticky syrup develops, about 5 minutes.
  • Whisk the batter and add a tablespoon of water if the batter looks too thick. Transfer to a squeeze bottle or piping bag.
  • Heat oil in a large skillet over medium-low until it reaches 350°F (180°C).
  • Squeeze the batter into the hot oil, making small circular spiral shapes.
  • Increase the heat to medium-high.
  • Fry the dough shapes until they are crispy on both sides, about 5 minutes.
  • Remove and immediately dip in the syrup mixture.
  • Serve with rabri, if desired.
  • Enjoy!
