Pairing kale with fruit works perfectly in smoothies. In this vividly green drink, the taste of earthy kale is balanced out with sweetness from apple cider, diced pear and frozen grapes. And unlike juices, smoothies give you the whole food - juice, fiber, nutrients and all. It's a delightfully delicious and refreshing way to get those cancer-fighting servings of fruits and veggies into your system.

Steps:

Combine all ingredients in a blender and blend well. Taste and add more apple cider if desired. Drink immediately.

1 orange, peeled, halved
1/2 ripe Bartlett pear, seeded, halved
1 small to medium size banana, peeled
1 cup (70 g) kale
2 cups (480 ml) ice cubes

Steps:

1.Place all ingredients into the Vitamix container in the order listed and secure lid. 2.Select Variable 1. 3.Turn machine on and slowly increase speed to Variable 10, then to High. 4.Blend for 45 seconds or until desired consistency is reached This recipe has been written for the Vitamix 5200 with Standard 64-ounce container. If you are using a different Vitamix machine or container size, you may need to make adjustments to the Variable Speed, processing time, and/or ingredient quantities.
