Libbie's German Sweet Chocolate Cake With Frosting image

This one is a different version of the chocolate cake. It has been used a lot so here it goes. It is probably older and the one your Grandma made. I have a lot of those recipes.

1 1/2 cups cake flour, sifted
1 cup sugar
1/2 teaspoon baking powder
1/4 teaspoon baking soda
1/2 teaspoon salt
1/3 cup butter, soft
3/4 cup buttermilk
1 teaspoon vanilla
1 (4 ounce) package German sweet chocolate
2 eggs
2/3 cup evaporated milk
2 egg yolks
1/4 cup butter
2/3 cup brown sugar
1 teaspoon vanilla
1/2 cup coconut
1/4 cup pecans, chopped

Steps:

  • sift dry ingredients.
  • into a bowl.
  • blend butter and sugar.
  • add 1/4 c buttermilk plus 2 tablespoons.
  • add chocolate which has been melted and cooled.
  • eggs (some recipes separate the eggs and beat egg whites if that's what you want to do do it.
  • vanilla beat 2 minutes.
  • add dry ingredients.
  • add rest of buttermilk beat 2 more minutes.
  • if you've beaten your egg white fold in here.
  • pour into buttered floured ,( i would do cocoa over butter instead of flour).
  • 9x12 cake pan bake 30 minutes no heat given I'm guessing 375 degrees.
  • frosting:.
  • cook the milk sugar and egg yolks and butter.
  • bring to a boil stirring constantly cook 1 minute at boil.
  • stir in coconut nuts and vanilla.
  • frost cake.

1 cup sugar
2 cups flour
3 teaspoons baking powder
1/4 teaspoon salt
2/3 cup milk
1 teaspoon vanilla
4 egg whites

Steps:

  • Temp 350 degrees Time 30-35 minutes.
  • Cream the butter and add the sugar until well blended.
  • Sift the dry ingredients together and add them to the butter and sugar alternately with the milk.
  • Add the flavoring.
  • Beat the egg whites until stiff but not dry. Fold them into the cake batter.
  • bake in 2 9-inch greased layer pans at 350 degrees for 30 to 35 minutes.
  • put fresh sliced strawberries in between layers and take the rest and chop up. mix in bow with 1 tsp of sugar a tsp of water and a tbsp of strawberry Jam.

1 cup LIBBY'S® 100% Pure Pumpkin
⅔ cup NESTLE® CARNATION® Evaporated Milk
⅓ cup vegetable oil
1 cup NESTLE® TOLL HOUSE® Premier White Morsels
3 tablespoons NESTLE® CARNATION® Evaporated Milk
1 cup NESTLE® TOLL HOUSE® Premier White Morsels
½ teaspoon ground cinnamon

Steps:

  • Preheat oven to 350 F. Grease and flour 12-cup Bundt pan.
  • Combine cake mix, eggs, pumpkin, evaporated milk and vegetable oil in large mixer bowl. Beat at low speed until moistened. Beat at medium speed for 2 minutes; stir in morsels. Pour into prepared Bundt pan.
  • Bake for 40 to 45 minutes or until wooden pick inserted in cake comes out clean. Cool in pan on wire rack for 25 minutes; invert onto wire rack to cool completely. Drizzle half of Glaze over cake; serve with remaining Glaze.
  • White Chip Cinnamon Glaze: Heat 3 tablespoons Nestle ® Carnation ® Evaporated Milk in small, heavy-duty saucepan over medium heat just to a boil; remove from heat. Add 1 cup (6 ounces) Nestle ® Toll House ® Premier White Morsels; stir until smooth. Stir in 1/2 teaspoon ground cinnamon.

6 eggs white
1/2 teaspoon cream of tartar
1 3/4 cups sugar
3/4 cup butter real
2 teaspoons vanilla extract
1/2 teaspoon almond extract
1 3/4 cups milk
Fruit and Nut Filling (see below)

Steps:

  • Preheat oven to 350° F. Grease the bottoms of two 9 x 1 1/2 -inch round cake pans. Line with waxed paper and grease again. Into a medium bowl sift together cake flour, baking powder and salt set aside.In a large mixer bowl at high speed beat egg whites with cream of tartar until stiff but not dry. Transfer to another bowl set aside.In the large mixer bowl at high speed beat sugar and butter until light and fluffy. Add vanilla and almond extract. At low speed beat in dry ingredients alternately with milk, starting and ending with flour mixture. Fold in egg whites. Pour into pans. Bake for 30 minutes or until a wooden pick inserted in the center comes out clean. Cool in pans on wire racks for 10 minutes. Remove from pans remove waxed paper immediately and cool cake completely on wire racks.Fill and top with filling.

This is from my Czech friends mother . It is a really good cake. You must soak the poppy seeds overnight or they will sink to the bottom of the cake. This seems like a lot of poppy seeds, but it works. It's a rich cake folks, but holds well and everyone seems in a mellow mood after eating it. lol

2/3 cup poppy seed
1 1/4 cups milk
1 1/2 cups sugar
1/2 cup lard or 1/2 cup butter
2 cups flour
2 teaspoons baking powder
1 teaspoon vanilla
3 eggs, whites beaten stiff
2 tablespoons honey
1 teaspoon salt
1/2 cup butter
1 lb powdered sugar
3 tablespoons lemon juice
1 tablespoon milk

Steps:

  • Soak poppy seeds in 1 1/4 c milk overnight.
  • Preheat oven to 350 degrees.
  • beat egg whites.
  • Cream lard,salt, sugar, honey, 3 egg yolks and vanilla together. Add dry ingredients; then add poppy seed mixture. When blended, fold in stiffly beaten egg whites. Put in greased and floured cake pan.
  • Bake until cake springs back when touched, about 40 minutes. Libby doesn't have exact time here folks. I was lucky to get measurements for her food--she's been doing it so long.
  • For the frosting, combine butter and powdered sugar; then add lemon juice and milk. Spread on warm cake.

1 (18 ounce) box yellow cake mix (not pudding in the mix)
1 (3 ounce) package vanilla instant pudding mix
3/4 cup water
3/4 cup cooking oil
4 eggs
1/4 cup granulated sugar
1/4 cup brown sugar
2 teaspoons cinnamon
1/2 cup white wine (Chardonnay)
1/2 toasted chopped pecans or 1/2 walnuts
6 tablespoons butter
6 tablespoons sugar
2 tablespoons water
1/4 cup white wine

Steps:

  • Preheat oven to 325 degrees. Put all cake ingredients except nuts in bowl of electric mixer. Mix well on med.low for 4-5 minutes. Spray Bundt tube type pan with non-stick spray. Put nuts in pan. Pour in batter and bake 1 hour at 325 degrees. Make glaze while cake is baking. When done remove from oven and pour 1/2 of glaze over cake while still in the pan and let stand for 10 minutes. Remove cake from pan. Let cool and brush remaining glaze over cake until all is absorbed.
  • For glaze: Boil butter, sugar and water together for 3 minutes in a small saucepan over medium heat. Remove from heat and stir in wine. Let cool before putting on cake.

It's more of a nut cake to me. My MIL made this cake a lot when her kids were growing up. It's very good. When I made it I didn't have cake flour so I used 2 cups regular flour and 1/2 cup cornstarch, and I needed 2 cups milk, but I'm writing the recipe the way she has it written. She also frosts it with white frosting with nuts sprinked on top.

1/2 teaspoon almond extract
1/2 teaspoon vanilla
2 1/2 cups cake flour
2 1/2 teaspoons baking powder
1 cup milk
3/4 cup chopped walnuts
5 large egg whites

Steps:

  • Cream butter and sugar; add flavorings.
  • Sift dry ingredients three times.
  • Add dry ingredients and milk, alternately, to the butter mixture.
  • Add nuts.
  • Beat egg whites until stiff and then fold them into the batter.
  • Place batter in a greased and floured 9 x 13 cake pan.
  • Bake at 300 degrees Fahrenheit for 30 to 35 minutes or until brown.
